CRIOMAG: ‘Taigh-Òsta Roghadail’

1. DHEIDHEADH (no RACHADH): ‘would go’

Dòmhnall (Doonie) Moireasdan:
“Bha thu a’ smaoineachainn mura deidheadh tu ann, gu robh thu air call a-mach air an t-uabhas dhe na rudan a bha a’ dol air adhart anns an àite.”
“You thought, if you didn’t go, that you had missed out on so many of the things that were happening in the place.”

nan deidheadh tu ann ‘if you went, if you were to go’
mura deidheadh tu ann ‘if you didn’t / wouldn’t go’

Dheidheadh ‘would go’
Dheidheadh iad dhan sgoil.
‘They would go to school.’
Dheidheadh iad air saor-làithean.
‘They would go on holiday.’
Dheidheadh iad uile gu Taigh-Òsta Roghadail oidhche Shatharna.
‘They would all go to the Rodal Hotel on Saturday nights.’

An deidheadh iad a-mach oidhche Shatharna? Dheidheadh, dheidheadh iad uile gu Taigh-Òsta Roghadail .
Would they go out on a Saturday night? Yes, they would all go to the Rodal Hotel.’
Mura deidheadh, bhiodh iad a’ faireachdainn gu robh iad air call a-mach.
If not, they would feel that they’d missed out.’
Dheidhinn dhan taigh-òsta oidhche Shatharna.
I’d go to the hotel on Saturday nights’.

‘I would say’: chanainn
‘I would be’: bhithinn
‘I would go’: dheidhinn

Dheidheadh AGAM air... ‘I would manage to...’
Dheidheadh agam air falbh tràth.
‘I would manage to leave early, I’d be able leave early’.
An deidheadh agad air tadhal orra?
‘Would you be able to visit them?’
Dheidheadh aca air dol sìos chun a‘ chladaich mus tòisicheadh an obair.
‘They’d manage to go down to the beach before work would start.’

RACHADH = dheidheadh ‘would go’

Mura rachadh tu ann,... = Mura deidheadh tu ann,... (‘If you wouldn’t go’)
Rachainn dhan taigh-òsta. = Dheidhinn dhan taigh-òsta. (I’d go to the hotel.’)
Rachadh agam air falbh tràth. = Dheidheadh agam air falbh tràth. (‘I’d manage to leave early.’)

2. CHUN : ‘TO (the)’ (movement)

Doonie Moireasdan:
“Sios chun a’ chladaich, mar a chanadh iad.”
“Down to the shore, as they would say.’

chun (‘to the … ’) + ginideach (genitive)
an cladach ach chun a’ chladaich
an taigh ach chun an taighe.
a’ ghealach ach chun na gealaich.

Choisich sinn còmhla chun an taighe.
‘We walked together to the house.’
Dheidhinn chun na gealaich leat.
‘I’d go the moon with you.’
