Oisean a' Ghràmair: Sreath 4: 2

Sùil air ais: ’S ANN (Faicibh Prògram 1.)

Ùisdean MacIll-Fhinnein:
Chan ann tric a tha mise sa chidsin mar a tha fios aig a’ mhòr-chuid agaibh, ach ’s ann an sin a lorg mi an leabhar a bu mhotha nach do chòrd rium air a’ bhliadhna a chaidh.”
“It’s not often that I’m in the kitchen as most of you know, but that’s where I came across the book I most disliked this past year.”

Chan ann tric
‘it’s not often’
S ann an sin a lorg mi an leabhar
‘It’s there that I came across the book.’

Òrdugh nam facal (‘word order’): gnìomhair is ainmear cas mu seach

Ùisdean MacIll-Fhinnein:

“Bha agad ri do chuid garlic a phrannadh, rosemary fhaighinn agus dh’fheumadh tu am bobhla a phiobrachadh.
“You had to crush your garlic, get hold of some rosemary, and you had to pepper the bowl.”

“Bha agad ris an fheòil fhàgail fad na h-oidhche agus sin aig blàths an rùm.”
“You had to leave the meat out all night and at room temperature.”

Le Tha / Bha / Bidh etc òrdugh Gàidhlig = òrdugh Beurla, m.e.:

Bha mi a’ pronnadh cneamh. ‘crushing gaelic’
Bidh thu a’ faighinn ròs-moire. ‘getting hold of rosemary’
Tha iad a’ piobrachadh a’ bhobhla. ‘peppering the bowl’

ACH le abairtean eile:
...cneamh a phronnadh ‘garlic to crush’
...ròs-moire fhaighinn ‘rosemary to get hold of’
...am bobhla a phiobrachadh ‘the bowl to pepper’

Tha na h-ainmearan (nouns: cneamh, ròs-moire, bobhla) agus na gnìomhairean (verbs: pronnadh, faighinn, piobrachadh) cas-mu-seach (‘the other way round’), agus tha sèimheachadh (lenition) air na gnìomhairean (a phronnadh, fhaighinn, a phiobrachadh).

Mar eisimpleir:
Bha aca ri cneamh a phronnadh. ‘They had to...’
Feumaidh tu an fheòil fhàgail. ‘You must...’
Bu chòir dhut am bobhla a phiobrachadh. ‘You should...’
Cha b’ urrainn dhomh ròs-moire fhaighinn. ‘I couldn’t...’
Tha mi ag iarraidh ort garlic a phrannadh. ‘I want you to...’
Dhìochuimhnich mi rosemary fhaighinn. ‘I forgot to...’
Dè mu dheidhinn deagh bhrot a dhèanamh? ‘How about...?’

“Dè mu dheidhinn deagh bhrot a dhèanamh, no cearc a ròstadh, no fiù’s toast le càise a chur fon ghrile.”
‘How about making a good soup, or roasting a chicken, or even putting cheese on toast under the grill.’

FAICIBH CUIDEACHD: Beag air Bheag 2, Prògram 2:

Feumaidh mi seo a dhèanamh. ‘I must do this.’
Feumaidh mi leabaidh ùr a cheannach. ‘I need to buy a new bed.’
Tha mi ag iarraidh an càr a reic. ‘I want to sell the car.’
Bu chòir dhut an leabhar seo a leughadh. ‘You ought to read this book.’
Dh’innis iad dhomh a’ chiad trèana a ghabhail. ‘They told me to take the first train.’
Cha bhiodh e glic am bùrn seo òl. ‘It wouldn’t be wise to drink this water.’
Dh’iarr mi orra an doras fhosgladh. ‘I asked them to open the door.’
Bu mhath leam am manaidsear fhaicinn. ‘I’d like to see the manager.’
