"There is no substitute for one-to-one advice from aÌýtop medical expert and that's what we offer our callers and emailers. But for each person who calls to ask for help, someone else phones in to pass on a tip or a suggestion -Ìýit's a great programme to present."

Chronic Obstructive Pulmonary Disease (COPD)
You may have heard of chronic bronchitis, or of emphysema, but to doctors they are both different aspects of what they call chronic obstructive pulmonary disease, orÌýCOPD.
Both these conditions mean that the airways in the lung are damaged and it becomes hard for the air to get in and out, causing breathlessness.
COPD is theÌýthird biggest cause of respiratory death, and the fifthÌýbiggest killer overall,Ìýin the UK.Ìý
COPD is caused mainly by smoking, but also by airborne pollution.Ìý It can also be the result of an inherited genetic deficiency.
If you or someone you know is worried that their cough or shortness of breath may be a sign of a long term chronic disease then call the programme for advice.
Barbara Myers will be joined by consultant Dr Keith Prowse to take your calls on the symptoms of COPD, and the treatments available.
Please contact the programme with your questions or comments on 08700-100-444 on the day of broadcast or e-mail using the Contact Check Up link.
