Memory

About 700,000 people in Britain suffer from dementia. When you forget what it was you wereÌýlooking for, or where you parked the car, it's easy to imagine that you're one of them.Ìý

This week on the health phone-in programme, Check Up'sÌý Barbara Myers and guest Roy Jones of RICE (Research Institute for the CareÌýof the Elderly)Ìýwill be discussing memory.Ìý

MCI
A degree of memory loss is part of the ageing process but when does forgetfulness become a medical condition? Many people suffer from mild cognitive impairment or MCI: it's not as bad as Alzheimer's but it is worse than natural memory loss due to age.Ìý

Coping strategies
If you do suffer from memory loss what's the best way of coping? Does eating sardines really help prevent Alzheimers? Does memory respond to exercise such as doing the crossword, re-learning songs or simply reminiscing? Could technology help? Making a video recording of their day helps some people with poor memories stay in control.
