"There is no substitute for one-to-one advice from aÌýtop medical expert and that's what we offer our callers and emailers. But for each person who calls to ask for help, someone else phones in to pass on a tip or a suggestion -Ìýit's a great programme to present."

Sore Bottoms
Do you have a painful, itchy or bleeding bottom?
If so, you could be suffering from a variety of different conditions, which Barbara Myers and her guest, Dr Ann Robinson, will be discussing in this episode of Check Up.
A bleeding anus is not usually a sign of anything sinister, but should always be examined by a doctor just in case.
Bleeding often indicates the presence of piles - a very uncomfortable condition characterised by a nagging, aching discomfort made worse by defecation.
Piles are caused when one of the soft pads inside the anal lining slips down, becomesÌýengorged with blood andÌýis pushed outside the anal canalÌýby bowelÌýmovements.
People who experience a knife-like pain when opening their bowels may be suffering from an anal fissure, where the skin just inside the anus is torn.
Anal itching can be caused by a number of differentÌýreasons from sensitivity to detergents to fungal infections and threadworms.
In this programme Barbara Myers and her guest Dr Ann Robinson will be discussing sore bottom problems. They will outline what treatments are available for bottom pain and how sufferers can make themselves more comfortable.
