"There is no substitute for one-to-one advice from aÌýtop medical expert and that's what we offer our callers and emailers. But for each person who calls to ask for help, someone else phones in to pass on a tip or a suggestion -Ìýit's a great programme to present."

| | | | Cholesterol
50% of men and 35% of women will develop heart disease at some stage in their lives. But lowering dangerous cholesterol levels can dramatically reduce this risk.
What is cholesterol? Cholesterol is a waxy, fat-like substance which forms naturally inside your body.
Although it gets a bad press, cholesterol performs some vital tasks - bolstering cell walls, insulating nerve fibres, making hormones and producing vitamin D.
It's not all bad There are good and bad forms of cholesterol. HDL (high density lipoprotein) or 'good cholesterol' transports deposits away from cells into the liver where it is broken down.
It’s the 'bad cholesterol' or LDL (low density lipoprotein) which you have to keep in check. LDL takes deposits from the liver to the cells, where it can build up.
Studio guest This week, Barbara Myers is joined in the studio by cardiologist, Dr Clive Weston to answer all your cholesterol questions.
Are you at risk from high cholesterol? Which lifestyle changes can help reduce it? Should you consider taking medication?
WeÌýheld a live webchat about cholesterol with Dr Weston after the programme. Read the full transcript here.
