There's a smell over the north of Lewis...

Last Friday the annual arrival of guga at Port of Ness took place with a queue on the pier waiting for the doubtful pleasure of buying what looks like an oiled chamois leather with a frame of bones attached. My cousin Dolina bought ten and tells me there is more meat on this year's birds than last - whether this is a good thing or a bad thing depends on your point of view. Anyway before those not in the know rush to buy Dynorod franchises for the island, be warned the smell is only temporary while the gannets are being consumed though there will be a short term revival of the distinctive aroma when the remaining gannets are taken out of cold storage and served in pitta bread to attendees at the 2007 Fank. emporio Alanjohn has a drive through guga lane now for the next fortnight which for an extra 30p can be maxed too give extra fries and a jumbo Pola Cola.
Wonder what a gannet and hedgehog terrine would taste like?

Save the Godwin

Horror of horrors it has come to my notice that plans are afoot to regenerate the centre of Penrith and the habitat of the Godwin could be wiped out. is this the kind of world in which we want to raise our children? I think not. I think a petition to the ciity fathers ( if indeed Penrith has city fathers )is called for) Lets bombard Eden Valley Council with emails of protest and completely confuse them. Now wouldn't that be fun
