What a dance..... Were you there..... Talk about hoching. Its the most people I've seen at a dance in a long long time. There were apparently 64 couples up for Strip the Willow at 2.15am! 64 couples. And it was still busy round the hall and out the bar. We all, apparently, have to thank John McCormick for the STW for going on so long. Apparently he's the man who tried to tell Ross to stop playing. And Ross of course, not only kept playing but kept cranking up the speed again and again and again.

I can now say that after a week back at work, I've now fully recovered.....

Friday Night's Quiz Night

So we're having a quiz on Friday Night, and here I am sifting through webpages to try and gen up on all kinds of stuff. Will it be an individual or team quiz. Do you think I've got any hope..... No neither do I. Any useless bits of trivia may come in handy on Friday, so do feel free to post some.

Trip to Thistle Centre Car Park in Stirling

So there I was in Stirling on Wednesday. I'd a busy day ahead and a long one when I drove the car into the Thistle car park about 2pm. It was busy but I got a space and managed to manouver the car into the (tight) space. Car next to me had a driver who didn't seem to be too great at parking cars in marked bays!

So off I go and get something to eat and get my spikes reheeled, and pick up stuff from the jeweller. Total of 25 minutes I was in Stirling for and spent a total of 拢12.15.

So I head back to the car and realise that although the car next to me has left, its been replaced with another car who is even closer than the last one. So bearing in mind that I've got a car to my right and a HUGE CONCRETE PILLAR (can you see where I'm going) on my left, I slowly edge forward. I get my left wing mirror past the pillar when two young toddlers start running towards the car, with a harried mother pushing a pram chasing. I stop and the mother catches up with the girls and heads into the lift area. I then realise I've got a clear space to get out and drive forward. That's when it happened. That really nasty sound of car doors against a concrete pillar. The result is about 拢350 worth of repairs. All I can say is that goodness for protected no claims bonuses and an excess of 拢100.....

So if you go down to Stirling, mind where you park, and if there are any kids running about in front of your car. Keep driving ;-)

Replacement Car

Well my car is away to the car doctor to get made better (and VALETTED!!!!). I am at present driving a "courtesy car". The normal courtesy car is out and they gave me "another car". It's lovely. Its petrol and so a lot quieter than my diesel. It has a broken left hand wing mirror, breaks that need replaced and a faulty back window wiper. Apart from that its a dark blue celica 1.8 and is quite nice to drive (excepting of course the faults above).

Would this be the easier way of getting a 拢1m?

Has anyone else seen the car advert with the wee laddie buying a car for a 拢1. And the follow up advert where he's lying down with 拢1000 all around him.

Well what I was wondering is: If you were to buy the car for a 拢1, and then get the 拢1000 cashback as advertised, would you then go and buy another 1000 cars at a 拢1 each, and get 拢1000 back for each of these 1000 cars. You could then put the money back in a high interest account, getting the interest paid monthly into another account, sell some of the 1000 cars you've bought, put that money into the "interest paid" account, and pay off the outstanding balances you have. Money left over would surely be pure profit.

Or am I looking at this too simply?

(I need to get out more!)

Anne's Passes the Post

Yep - its true. "Anne the Post" is reverting back to Anne MacCormick. She's hanging up her post bag, giving up the keys to the post car.

No more will she be dropping off our post, but just to ensure that we don't get too disappointed with her leaving she's having a dance on Friday. Hurrah!

Anne - this is just a wee thank you for delivering our mail in all weathers.

Thanks.

Scotland's Empire on 91热爆2 (Friday night 9pm)

I don't know if any of you have been watching this programme on 91热爆2.

On Friday 30th the programme moves to Africa and takes a look at David Livingstone. One of the contributors to the show is Deirdre Livingstone, the Baron of Bachuil's daughter.

Deirdre, I believe, will be talking about her family's involvement in Africa, and Magomero.

Deirdre spoke earlier this year (well in 2003) to the islanders about Magomero and what life was like for her father's family when they lived there.

I'll be setting the video to record it, as I'll be dancing at Anne the Post's do, but for those of you who can't get to the pub, and don't fancy anything else on the telly - give it a go.

Andy the Ferryman's next big swim

Some of you might not know that during the Summer of 2003, Andy, one of the Lismore/Port Appin ferrymen, swam from Glensanda Quarry to Port Appin. He did it in just over three hours!!!

I've added a "Multimap" link to show you where Glensanda is (on the mainland on lhs) and where Port Appin is (on the mainland on the rhs). For those of you who may not know where I'm talking about.

He did it to raise money for the children of Port Appin to help develop a piece of ground into a play area for them.

Well, Andy is back in training. This year he's raising money for the kids on the island of Lismore. So where is he going to swim from I hear you ask?
Well Andy - being Andy - is going to swim around the island of Lismore. Yep that's right. He reckons that if he can do a mile every 25 minutes he should be fine.

Personally - I think he'll do it. He's got another couple of swims in mind for 2005 and 2006, and he's actively looking for a "campaign Manager" to help him with raising his sponsorship.

Getting Older.......

A friend's child took great delight last night in telling me that on Sunday I'd be a year older than I was just now..... At that moment I realised that I'd then be on the 40-side of 30!

A bit miffed at this wee snipe - I replied, "Ah - but have you not realised - you're a year older today than you were last year!"

I then got his Mum to send him to bed as we had some more wine and started planning our 40ths!!!

All the Good Ones are Going..........

There has to have been something in the air recently. That's Andy L, John McC, and Graeme McC, agreeing to marry the Ladies in their lives.

Congratulations to you all, and we're now waiting to find out who'll be first down the aisle.....
