DIARYÌýFROM A STRANGE COUNTRY

In the last programme in the current series of Nature, Paul Evans reflects on his encounters with the wildlife in the countryside around his Shropshire home.

With the edge of winter finally moving across the country, it's been a strange year for British wildlife.

Some of the more notable moments have made the news -- like the arrival of the whale in the Thames back in January, or the swan that died of bird flu in Scotland in the early spring. But the day-to-day lives of animals in the countryside go largely unreported.

Ravens on Windmill Hill; a tawny owl chick fledging in the ash tree; the late summer deluge of Daddy Long legs: just some of the moments which make up the unreported wildlife year.
