"Nature is full of surprises, so the programme can investigate fascinating and challenging areas in
our relations with the natural world without being too technical or preachy. My job is brilliant because, as a link between the listener and the subject, I can discover new information and ideas which help people make up their own minds on important issues."

Ice grains deep with the Engabreen Glacier in Norway. |
The Engabreen Glacier
Nature presenter Paul Evans was invited by scientists from Bristol University to spend a week with them living in tunnels underneath a glacier in arctic Norway.
The scientists were studying recently discovered life - microscopic organisms living in and beneath the glacier.
The research into what these microbes were doing in such an extreme environment was fascinating enough, but the story then takes an unexpected turn towards science fiction.
Scientists are interested in the glacier microbes because their detection helps the development of technology which can be applied to landing craft searching for life on Mars.
This leads to questions about the origin of life on Earth and and the search for it beyond. |
