"Nature is full of surprises, so the programme can investigate fascinating and challenging areas in
our relations with the natural world without being too technical or preachy. My job is brilliant because, as a link between the listener and the subject, I can discover new information and ideas which help people make up their own minds on important issues."

Midwinter Wonders
The ancient fire festival of Imbolc is one of eight festivals that were once celebrated to recognise theÌýequinoxes and turning of the seasons.Ìý Imbolc falls on 1st February which is the midpoint between the winter solstice and the spring equinox.Ìý It was a time to welcome the return of the sun with lengthening days and warming temperatures.Ìý
In NatureÌý Paul Evans finds out more about Imbolc and celebrates the early signs of spring.Ìý HeÌýdiscovers how plants and animals time their behaviour and responses to the changing seasons, temperatures and daylength.Ìý For example,Ìýbird species need to link their courtship and breeding to a time further on in the year when there will be a plentiful supply of food for their young.
With so much fluctuationÌýtoday in our seasonal weather and rising temperatures, PaulÌýalso finds out how species can adapt their behaviour to these changes.ÌýÌý
This year, the 91Èȱ¬ and the Woodland Trust have launched a major survey to record the arrivalÌýofÌýspring across the UK.ÌýÌýAnyoneÌýcan take part by logging the dates you first seeÌýbumblebees, frogspawn and seven-spot ladybirds.Ìý You canÌýrecord your sightings on the 91Èȱ¬ website: Springwatch
