"Nature is full of surprises, so the programme can investigate fascinating and challenging areas in
our relations with the natural world without being too technical or preachy. My job is brilliant because, as a link between the listener and the subject, I can discover new information and ideas which help people make up their own minds on important issues."

NATURE: Trees of Trafalgar
This programme forms part of the 91Èȱ¬ Radio 4's season on theÌý200th anniversary of the Battle of Trafalgar and the death of Admiral Nelson. 91Èȱ¬ Radio 4 - Trafalgar Season
The Trafalgar Woods Project will plant an incredible 250,000 trees in the UK and involve at least 15,000 children at the tree planting events.
By the end of the project, 33 new woods will have been planted to commemorate each of the ships in Nelson's fleet and to celebrate the important role British timber played in our naval heritage.
Paul Evans visits the woods of England and Spain that provided the timber - an incredible 3,700 trees, each possibly over a hundred years old -Ìýfor a 72 gun war ship.
In the Battle of Trafalgar, 27 of Nelson's ships were pitched against 32 of the French and Spanish coalition force. That's a lot of trees.
How were the trees chosen for ship building? WhatÌýcarpentary went into making a 3000 ton wooden ship with multiple desks and many masts?
Paul EvansÌýlooks into thisÌýtruly complexÌýform of naval engineering.
