Why Garden For Wildlife?

Gardening for wildlife was once considered a horticultural heresy. Now, it鈥檚 regarded as mainstream to a level where that it seems perverse to ask, why do it?

Paul Evans talks to Ken Thompson, ecologist with the Bugs Project; and wildlife gardening guru Chris Baines, who has championed a type of gardening which brings wildlife into our back yards for the last 30 years.

Recent research conducted by the Bugs Project focused on the biodiversity in urban gardens in Sheffield. It reveals that many of our cherished assumptions about wildlife gardening mat turn out to be myths.

Paul referees a spirited discussion about why wildlife gardening developed, what has been learnt about it and how it may even shape the future of wildlife conservation.
