Build Me Up Buttercup
Posted: Sunday, 01 July 2007 |
Three days of sun & no wind. Looks like summer's over here in Fetlar then for the year. Lots of floods & rain down south, yet we've only had 20% of our June rainfall. Parts of southern Scotland have had 200% apparently. Lerwick had 13 hours of sunshine yesterday (30th June). Wow!
Fetlar is busy at the moment with lots of people visiting, Phalarope spotting or enjoying the sun. People have even been seen reading the Fetlar School's Easy To Understand Timetable, which has now raised over 拢425.
Mac lost his ball amongst the Buttercups.

Far fae the dark of the moon, on the 30th of June
In a Transit, pullin' folk.
Bus driver Charlie with a muckle smile on
And a Transit haulin' Trows.
We were headin' somewhaar on the A968 -
'Bout a mile out of Hagdale Town,
He looked and saw that Ruthodanort,
He said I'd better tak' her alang!
Cause we gotta little ol' Mystery Tour, rockin' through the night
Yeah we gotta little ol' Transit, ain't she a beautiful sight?
Come on an' join our tour, ain't nothin' gonna get in our way,
We're gonna take this muckle Transit, across the Unst wastes.
Transit... Transit...
No she wasn't arrested for bad taste - she's still at liberty.

The Sun Always Shines on TV
Posted: Friday, 06 July 2007 |
Help! The 91热爆 is here. Think I'll go and hide in the buttercups with the dog.
Rest assured that your intrepid blogger will provide you with an update (warts and all) on the blog next week.
PS: It's a lie about sun on TV - it is misty & wet here at the moment. Maybe they should have filmed us on a comparable warm island: St Kitts maybe?

That's Entertainment!

As self appointed Fetlar blogger I would like to say that the 91热爆 has left the isle. Actually they left us last Saturday, but this is TV land.
It was weird to see people you know on the TV talking to the camera naturally. Some of us just couldn't do it.
It showed some really good views: Tresta Beach, Funzie, the School, the hall, Yell Ferry etc. Our ambassador was excellent as well.
I was wondering how the 'appearance' effect would look on TV & it was really convincing.
Anyone wanting further info on 'The Garden of Shetland' should visit the school website: www.fetlar.shetland.sch.uk; the Interpretive Centre: www.fetlar.com; or the Tourist Portal: www.fetlar.shetland.sch.uk/fetlar_visitor_information_portal.shtml .
The 91热爆 film:is available to view at www.bbc.co.uk/scotland/islandblogging/ibhq/0000009944.shtml
Happy browsing!
PS: Sorry this blog is so late- we had a 'planned' power cut this morning.

The place is buzzing. I emerged from the field of buttercups (see previous blog) to discover that the entire island is dicussing the 91热爆's The One Show.
Apparently the 91热爆 has had over 300 expressions of interest in its Fetlar feature. The community council has had about a dozen enquiries. Property developers will be moving in shortly probably. Ha!
The shop was busy as normal on Friday morning - as it always is, especially as our local newspaper comes out that day. The subject of discussion was the number of enquiries people seemed to be receiving. Here in Muness View no-one has enquired! Although I have had my picture taken this week!!
The school website has had many visitors & the guestbook has had more postings than its had in the last 6 months.
The 91热爆 website says that Fetlar doesn't have a rush hour. Well, I was driving along yesterday & had to stop for ducks, assorted suicidal rabbits, a black back gull (that wouldn't move) and ten sheep. The sheep were the cleverest: they ran ahead of the car and then, when I'd reached the gate, they hid behind a wood pile. With a knowing look of "We can't be seen here," they then ran out from behind the wood pile at five second intervals. It was like the Great Escape scene where they emerge from the tunnel.
So, it is busy here!!!

I Heard It Through The Grapevine
Posted: Monday, 30 July 2007 |
Our grapevine is always laden with juicy fruit. Today its the impending return visit of the 91热爆. They are supposed to be bringing a family to look at the island.
Since the appearance of Fetlar on The One Show there have been lots of messages, emails & phone calls about the isle. The school website has had over 30 postings (as have the Fetlar blogs).
We will wait & see what happens next. Maybe we'll get a celeb reporter this time - Myleene Klass? Aidrian Chiles? Carol Thatcher?
On to other 'news':
One comment on the blogs said that take aways were hard to get here in Fetlar. Our postie seems to manage it quite frequently though. Any way here's a picture of one happy customer after the recent Fetlar Sheep Dog Trials Chip Suppers in the Hall.
In the interests of balance and prevention of canine obesity here's a picture of Mac's usual fitness regime.
Mac has become popular in the North Isles. He's enjoyed himself at the hoose of Damadcoo & Ruthodanort has requested the pleasure of his company for a while. The dog is in demand!! A doggy fashion accessory business could be in the offing?
