Its My Party & I'll Cry If I Want To

There should be a law against working on your birthday.
Everyone with a birthday in January should hae an official birthday in summer.
Despite this I have had a nice birthday. The sun shone for 2 hours, I have been serenaded down the phone by a massed choir from a distant island and we have eaten two lots of chocolate cake. What a nice day!

The Answer is Blowin' In The Wind!

Hooray! I've learned how to compress my photos so the blog is no longer an image free zone.
Here's a few pictures from the last month. The weather has been very changeable(!) and that's being polite about it.

Stormy to the south of us.

The day the sun came out this week. It only seems to have happened twice this year so far. Ironically this was the same day that 99 mph winds gusted across Heathrow. There wasn't even a breeze here, suprisingly.

Sunset on the same day

The days are beginning to get longer. We've only 5 months to the summer solistice.

Can the Can

A veritable feast

On Saturday Fetlar Youth Club held a fundraising night. We raised 拢355 in 4 hours. Very good going for an island with a population of just 60. Its proof that wherever you go in the world Bingo will make you money. Its addictive! I was one number away from winning the 拢60 jackpot (again).
The food was fantastic as can be seen from the picture above.

Money was also raised by playing "Guess What's In The Can". Our local shop had an unlabelled tin that they couldn't sell, so for 50p folk guessed what was contained within. The can was rolled, shaken, pushed and weighed in an effort to guess what delights were inside. Any guesses anyone?
Ah, what lies within the can of destiny?

Guesses to this blog please.

Good Day Sunshine

Winter Sun

Its Sunny! I wanted to see how quickly I could get this picture on the blog. Its a lovely day outside, although the temperature is 3 degrees. After all, the official sunset time is 4pm. The muddy ground is still half frozen though.

Blue Monday

A typical January day this winter

Greetings fae Fetlar (was what I wrote in the snow on Saturday morning, meaning to take a snap of it for the blog. I came back 5 minutes later to discover it had all melted. Strange weather:snowstorm at 11, rain by 12, snow gone by 1. Is that island warming or are we just hot stuff in Fetlar?

Carol Chauveau claims that my sunny picture on Friday wasn't sunny. Maybe it wasn't for France, but for Fetlar in January its positively tropical. Today its 7 degrees at 3:50, with a light drizzle.

How's that for an instant blog?

Please visit Can the Can (one of my previous blogs) and have a guess.
