As self appointed Fetlar blogger I would like to say that the 91Èȱ¬ has left the isle. Actually they left us last Saturday, but this is TV land.
It was weird to see people you know on the TV talking to the camera naturally. Some of us just couldn't do it.
It showed some really good views: Tresta Beach, Funzie, the School, the hall, Yell Ferry etc. Our ambassador was excellent as well.
I was wondering how the 'appearance' effect would look on TV & it was really convincing.

We are two friends (female) who have, between us, 6 dogs and 2 cats. We visited Shetland in 1999 (to see the tall ships) and have often talked about how wonderful it would be to live there. We realise we are probably not the 'family' you are seeking, but would like to know more about the possibility of moving to the isles, especially Fetlar, eg property prices (we would share), employment (we are both qualified social workers with many years experience and one of us is an avid bird watcher - perhaps she could do something with the RSPB, if it would be possible for me to travel to work in Lerwick maybe). We are family of 3 (our son is 13 months old) and we'd love to join your community. We're keen and willing to turn our hands to (almost!) anything, although I am a qualified housing professional, currently working for a local authority's housing strategy team. That said, we would be willing to do whatever is necessary to maintain our family and involve ourselves in island life! We'd be willing to commit to the island in the long term, in order to raise our family in a beautiful & safe environment (we'd love more kids). We have 3 gorgeous dogs who would also be moving with us. We understand this would be a major lifestyle shift, but we are willing and eager to give it a go! The photo above (or something very much like it) was in Muness's first blog. Recycling, but still no cyclist on that road to nowhere # I have read wonderful things about Fetlar, its fertility, and its birds. I have no doubt that leeks would grow there as well. Current personnel at school seems to be doing a great job. All in all, a great place to raise a family. The housing stock and employment opportunities might be limiting factors.

I we are mad about wildlife, have three dogs, keep chickens, would love to keep sheep and/or pigs. We are in our early 40's and would love to come up to the island and run a wildlife buisness. I am a licenced bat and crayfish worker and survey bridges for wildlife for the local authority before maintainence work takes place. My wife works for a local garage but does not know I've sent this message. I am also working for a degree in Environmental Science through the OU and would love the time to crack-on with it

Hi there, we both adore Scotland, we recently got married in Poolewe, which seemed remote, but not as adorably remote as you guys. We are a family of 3 our son is only 10 months old with two dogs and four cats, my husband is a builder/groundworker, although trained as a welder, worked as a decorator and cowman. Hi Muness views.....I would like to say thanks for ya'lls WARM island welcome but I also know that it takes a certain kind of person to fit into island living. The overall theme I get from all the islanders blogs is contentment and in todays world ....thats.a scarce commodity. I envy ya'll as I am surrounded, "by choice" with the gray from the concrete and steel and in traffic jams sometimes for hours. BUT then my mind wanders Happily to thoughts of Fetlar or Cull or arran or sometimes the Hermits little slice of heaven on Sanday... and then ALLS well in this crazy world. God bless......frodo

Count me out. If I were to move to the Islands, Stromness might be quite a temptation. I like shopping, and Stromness has Six-Pack (refers to musculature, I understand from FC's diary) Tam's book emporium. There is shopping week in Stromness also. From the looks of it, Fetlar will likely get overcrowded when the next ferry goes aground. It would be crowded sooner, but it does not have a facility such as Coll International to help the in-migration process.

I'm considering the Shetlands on a limited budget. A qualified massage therapist, soon to specialise in pregnancy and baby massage. I'd be hoping to foster & am an avid self-sufficiency fan with agro-tourism ideas and lots of energy and enthusiasm. Struggling to find something in my budget of less than 50k at present - would prefer no services as will be generating own energy and implementing greywater and compost toilet systems but could do with a building that is structurally sound if possible (or land so cheap I can afford to start from scratch building say, an adobe dwelling?). Would need to have enough space to eventually incorporate children into my household and enough land to grown own veg and possibly keep lifestock. Any ideas or solutions for me please would be much appreciated. Thx

Hi - would love to move to Fetlar with my husband and toddler but obviously housing is a key factor. We are in our early thirties and looking to set down roots. Do you know what type of housing is available on the island to buy (if any) or rent and what are the average prices? Also, when finding employment do residents tend to work on the island or travel elsewhere?
