Busy Doing Nothing

Its a long time since I last blogged.
Why you ask ?
To be honest I am not quite sure , has the literary talent gone on holiday thats if there was any in the first place!!
Is life on Shapinsay so interesting that I have very little time to parcipitate in other activities.
Well................
The social scene on Shapinsay has been restricted to a Movie Mania Fancy Dress Dance, A Shapinsay Development Trust AGM, The Lunch Club every other Wednesday.Art Class on Thursday and Needlefelting on Wednesday So my social diary has been somewhat full of late. So much so that the building work has had to take a back seat.
Mr B and I attended a Fancy Dress Dance in September the theme was Movie Characters. Mr B went as Austin Powers complete with Billy Bob Teeth and I was Felicity Shagwell. The evening was a great sucess with a Movie Theme and plenty of Popcorn Pizza Movie Quiz and goodies. The children really enjoyed the evening and revellers left the shindig after 3am.
The Annual General Meeting of the Shapinsay Development Trust was a jaunty evening with most of the residents of the island out for blood. It had been proposed to pass the Community Right to Buy but the opposition was greatly felt and the vote was taken with a unnanimous NO being recorded.
There was a lot of passion and heated debate. It was summed up by a member when he said that as a Community if land was to be aquired for a Community project then it should be done in the island way of approaching the landowner on a friendly basis and not letting outsiders decide as to the selling price of a piece of land.
I attended a Community Drystane Wall building course and we sucessfully rebuilt a wall that had fallen into disrepair, It was hard work but the lunch and good friends made the day a great sucess.
Shapinsay has a Lunch Club to which I have become a volunteer. Every other Wednesday we invite the over 50s to the Community Centre for Lunch and various pastimes. Next Wednesday we are having an Afternoon Tea with Entertainment and a Raffle visitors are all welcome between 2-4pm
As well as art class and Needlefelting I am finding that there are not enough hours in the day to find some inspiration for Blogging. I am sure that normal service will be resumed before too long.
Happy Halloween Everyone and don't forget that you can order your Xmas Turkeys and Xmas Trees from Thomas Sinclair on Shapinsay now so don't delay

Hoochs Present
Posted: Wednesday, 24 October 2007 |
The days are going to get a lot shorter soon and I can't beleive that this time last year we were suffering the floods that brought chaos to Kirkwall and a lot of other islands.
Today has been a grand day and I have managed to spend all day out in the fresh air ( well sort of fresh, the local farmer decided to burn a very large heap of bales and were suffering the effects of smoke inhalation yesterday, and probably will for the next few days ) but thats another story.
Our nearest neighbours have been away on a long earnt rest for a week and Hooch and I have been walking their black labrador Moss. They returned on Monday and as a Thankyou they gave Hooch the largest Hide Bone he had ever seen. I gave it to him this morning and from that time until now he has been carrying it around with him afraid that the cat might want it. Not a very intelligent dog is Hooch he doesn't realise that the cat prefers fish.
He has been tossing it up in the air rolling on it slobbering over it and as yet has only managed to make one end of it so disgusting that no one in their right mind would want it. It's his pride and joy
Its a Dogs Life (unless your a cat that is )

Scary Squash
Posted: Wednesday, 31 October 2007 |
In keeping with true Halloween tradition, you need a good scary lantern. I have dusted off my broom and groomed the black cat , sharpened up its claws and made sure that there is plenty of hubble bubble toil and truble.
Tis the witching hour and all good children had better beware cos Brian the Butterut Squash lantern will be burning in my window to welcome all small children who venture down the track to Barebraes. Once inside they will be fattenned up and fed to Hooch the Merciless who has been licking his lips at the thought of tasty small children.
Forget Pete the Pumpkin or Norman the Neppy lantern Brian the Butternut Squash is ready to take over the island.
