Busy Doing Nothing

Its a long time since I last blogged.

Why you ask ?

To be honest I am not quite sure , has the literary talent gone on holiday thats if there was any in the first place!!
Is life on Shapinsay so interesting that I have very little time to parcipitate in other activities.

Well................

The social scene on Shapinsay has been restricted to a Movie Mania Fancy Dress Dance, A Shapinsay Development Trust AGM, The Lunch Club every other Wednesday.Art Class on Thursday and Needlefelting on Wednesday So my social diary has been somewhat full of late. So much so that the building work has had to take a back seat.

Mr B and I attended a Fancy Dress Dance in September the theme was Movie Characters. Mr B went as Austin Powers complete with Billy Bob Teeth and I was Felicity Shagwell. The evening was a great sucess with a Movie Theme and plenty of Popcorn Pizza Movie Quiz and goodies. The children really enjoyed the evening and revellers left the shindig after 3am.

The crazy couple

The Annual General Meeting of the Shapinsay Development Trust was a jaunty evening with most of the residents of the island out for blood. It had been proposed to pass the Community Right to Buy but the opposition was greatly felt and the vote was taken with a unnanimous NO being recorded.
There was a lot of passion and heated debate. It was summed up by a member when he said that as a Community if land was to be aquired for a Community project then it should be done in the island way of approaching the landowner on a friendly basis and not letting outsiders decide as to the selling price of a piece of land.

I attended a Community Drystane Wall building course and we sucessfully rebuilt a wall that had fallen into disrepair, It was hard work but the lunch and good friends made the day a great sucess.

Shapinsay has a Lunch Club to which I have become a volunteer. Every other Wednesday we invite the over 50s to the Community Centre for Lunch and various pastimes. Next Wednesday we are having an Afternoon Tea with Entertainment and a Raffle visitors are all welcome between 2-4pm

As well as art class and Needlefelting I am finding that there are not enough hours in the day to find some inspiration for Blogging. I am sure that normal service will be resumed before too long.

Happy Halloween Everyone and don't forget that you can order your Xmas Turkeys and Xmas Trees from Thomas Sinclair on Shapinsay now so don't delay

That was blatant commercialisation, that last bit was. I used to do a lot in the community, it was called Community Service, and I serviced the community. I've never heard of Felicity Shagwell, and I'm sure she's never heard of me, but I don't think that's her real name though.

I do admire the way you can write a really interesting blog posting whilst telling us you have nothing to say - so unlike the homeliff of our own Tws...

You are too picky TWS: plugs are and should remain perfectly acceptable, particularly when they are done so off-handedly and the products are of such good quality. # Good to hear from you Barebraes. You were missed.

With a moniker like yours, TWS, you should be the last one to cast doubt on the veracity of someone's name. As Senator Lloyd Bentsen could have said to Moo or Bound4Orkney (i.e. from one American to another): "Ms. Shagwell is a good friend of mine, and ... you are no Ms. Shagwell"

Lot of dressing up going on around thes blogs. Winter's coming on (Oh no its not).

Oh yes it is.

I have a long way to go to emulate the great TWS when posting blogs FC. I have no doubt that his community service was well well earnt too. As for the dressing up it obviously has something to do with the long dark nights and the fact that fantasy is better than reality :) Shop opening times and any other enquiries regarding avaliability is readily avaliable at a small cost

Barebraes from Shapinsay

Aha, I now know who flick Shagwell is, aptly named I understand.

Oh no it isn't...oh wait a minute...

Barebraes, let's hear you and your fire-fighter are in good health and good spirits, I am starting to get worried. # Even ArdnortR. is back home safely, having put on some twenty pounds after stopping at countless all-you-can-eat-buffet places in Texas.
