new mobile

welcome to the world - a new mobile is born. it arrived a few days late as all new arrivals do, and came wrapped in a massive card package - I was afraid to open it in case it was a huge shoebox style mobile destined for idiots who don't read the small print on Amazon...
its black and shockproof and can take video and photos, and can get FM radio - think it can make the tea as well. don't yet know how to use it as a phone of course...
now to read the instructon book... speak to me in a month.
congratulations to Herman on his news (which everyone in the world seemed to know except me...) is he now one in thirty five rather than one in a million?
Holidays on Wednesday - off galivanting over Scotland - son wants to see the Loch Ness Monster - well we'll do our best. will let you know if we see it. And take a photo/video with new phone.
happy holidays everyone!

back fae holidays - and off again...

Monday: caught 7.30 flight from Sumburgh. Had to get up really really early to get to airport an hour before the flight. they wanted to search my bag. no sleep the night before because my cousin, at the very last minute - about 7pm on Sunday night - had to leave to see a friend in hosptial in Aberdeen, so we had to find alternative accomodation.
Tuesday: stayed for two nights with very good friends in Edinburgh, who were moving house and had no furniture. now that's a real friend. We shopped, and went to the Commonwealth Pool - to a place called Clambers where kids can climb, scramble etc for about an hour. Visited Chamber St Museum. Went on a scary tour - too scary, the guide screamed (for effect) and we had to leave... went to see 'Pirates of the Carribean 2' very long and very good. Not as good as no.1
Wednesday: travelled to Glasgow. saw the new Kelvingrove Museum. posh or what. the coffee bar is a cafe, the cafe is a restaurant, the burger van is NOT a burger van. not as nice as Chamber St in Edinburgh.
Went to the tallest cinema in Europe - 14 floors and 18 screens. It is so so nice to sit in a large COMFORTABLE seat and stretch out your legs, and not feel in the way of the 6 rows behind you... We saw 'Over The Hedge' lovely.
Thursday: back beginning to feel a bit sore. Travelled to Edinburgh to see cousin, now returned from Aberdeen. played tennis and football with son. weather v hot.
Friday: blank - what did we do?
Saturday: spent day in North Berwick - mainly at the Seabird Centre - its fantastic. terrific shop and cafe, and the exhibition is excellent.
Sunday: back really beginning to bother me - a small child did something revolting near me in the Dunbar Pool - I tried really hard to keep hair and face out of the water - and made my back about 20 times worse.
tried to pack bags at night - realised back was in trouble. used ibuprofen gel and tablets in double doses. did not say anything to kind hosts.
Monday: agony. got friend to carry cases on to train. needed three trains to get to Inverness. Thought about flying home at any expense. Decided against it.
son very sick on very busy very hot train to Edinburgh.
so glad will not see those particular commuters again.
got onto Perth train with son's help. What a hero.
In dire straights (or straits) by Perth. have to change trains - and train that arrives is packed and there are no seats. Have paid 拢50 and no seat. Cannot find luggage rack. when the ticket collector comes along I complain. she tells me the rack is 'over there' I refuse to believe her - but she is right. 2 very kind youths stow my luggage for me and I couldn't care if any one steals it. son gets a seat with strangers - I silently pray he is not sick again.
by Aviemore we get a seat together and enjoy the scenery - its a fascinating journey from the culture capital to the Highlands.
Inverness: we find guest house - I have written address down completely wrong, but taxi driver sorts us out. we walk to centre and get on bus to Loch Ness. I am determined to do this - despite sore back and sick child, who is now ravenous as has not been allowed food! we have lovely afternoon looking for Nessie who doesn't show up, but everyone assures us she is very real. we have a bus trip, a boat trip with an hour at Urquhart Castle, and a bus trip back to Inverness
slap up meal in McDonalds. in bed by half 7
Tuesday: friend takes us to Landmark - a wonderful place in Carrbridge, with trees, mazes, squirrels, water slides, and climbing/abseiling bits. something for everyone. and NO loud music. well worth a visit. Loved it. (I watched while they were active)
Wednesday: travel to Aberdeen via Morgan McVeigh's shop/restaurant and get the boat at night. I am exhausted and need a rest to recover.
I have spent the last two days unpacking and packing, washing and ironing and organising a birthday party. we are off to sunny Unst for a few days, to say I am worn out is an understatement!! phew!
