Drunk??? Not I.
Ruthodanort from Unst
Lucky you. Sounds like oodles of fun. So, Ruthodanort is praticing for the Old Vic, eh? The usual suspects were there? Did Herman make it or is he too busy putting the finishing touches to his house in Orkney? Sounds as if he is looking forward very much to the visit later this month. I certainly wish him lots of fun. You certainly sound like a fun loving sort, Scallowawife

Do I know Scallowawife? As to Ruthodanort - drink? Never! I did not attend this year. Nothing could beat 2005's extravaganza.
Herman from Orkney
MJC, I think you're confused again. As to who's who onywye. When you visit us up here we'll have to meet up for a pint & we'll explain all.

Confused? Guilty as charged, your Honor (Honour). I would hate to have to tell who it was I saw leaving the scene of the crime!! When you folks are not out carousing at Up .., do you do any vegetable gardening in the Shetlands? True, I did not see (nor expect to see) vegetable gardens on St. Ninans or the Broch of Mousa, but I did not see much elsewhere either. Not much sign of it in the Orkney mainland either. Is the season too short and the winds too harsh? Are the vegetable prices the northern isles much more than those in, say, Aberdeen or Edinburgh? Thanks Ruthadanort: I shall make sure I drop by the police station first to get your mug shot, eh?

MJC - who are you calling a vegetable? of course we garden. Its just that bit harder to see the efforts. In the summer we cut the grass - it grows twice the speed here because of the long daylight hours in summer. Summer is the time of year we go outside regardless of the weather because we are supposed to. No, really summer can be brilliant here - last year was awful - very wet and windy. We are optimistic that this year will be good. Mid summer is usually lovely with long long days and no night. (or is that long evenings that never end?) however last summer in June some of us went on a boat trip to Fair Isle - we have photos to prove it - we had on hats, scarves, thick coats n gloves. It could have been November. PS why do you assume ruthodanort wid be in a police mug shot?
Scallowawife from Shetland
There was no garden in Earl Stewart's shack in a ruinous state in Scalloway either. But I'll take your word for it that you grow zucchini. As to Ruthadonort, if I am to stand her a glass of ale, I would have to be able to spot her in Unst. Those folks in Unst are masters of disguise: now you see them, and now you don't. Only Herman of Orkney seems to know the difference. Maybe Ruthodanort is the character featured in Astro Nebula's blog?

Flippin eck, I hope I luk better as him!! I had the pleasure of watchin the pantomime twice, as I was 'On The Door', as we say. It raised nearly 拢600 for the school! I saw in anidder blog, mjc, that you've seen the Swan website. (The Swan is a Shetland sail training vessel, the same een that tuk us to Fair Isle.) There are a few pics o me on it, mostly in the 2003 St Andrews Youth Club trip to Norway section. See if you can spot me.

Saw the boat on Ruthodanort (Dec. 2005, I think) Could not find the St. Andrews Youth Club pics on the Swan/Shetland website. Which specific address (plus year etc)?. I am already all agog (or is it all a-titter). You folks are lucky to have access to such a boat. By the way, would you or Beag tell me what a fank is (clearly it is not a farsangi fank - hungarian donut). It is a party, probably: but what kind? Another peculiarity of the islands?

mjc - Try pasting this address into your address bar: http://www.theswan.shetland.co.uk/imagecat/schoolpics2003.html That should take you to the right page. Then scroll down till you see anything with St Andrews Youth Club on it & click on the bar. I had to ask aboot a fank too. It's sheep pens. Of coorse, as soon as I asked on a blog comment, aboot 10 local folk telt me as weel!

Fanks qua sheep pens: Why would Annie B and some others (seemingly from the Western Isles?) rave about participating or being present at the "fank"? Are the folks out there that "strange" [please, don't bother anwering!! From across the Atlantic, and protected by deserts, I am in some safety!!]?
