Frozen Pipes and Blocked Tracks

Well Spring is well and truly here.

Easter was a cold bleak and frustrating time in the Barebraes household. The snow filled the old living room and bedroom which are still roofless. The water tank which is in its temporary position ontop of a huge stack of paletts decided that the cold weather was just too much and decided to freeze and apart from the mains water we were without the hot for a short while. ALl these were endured without gripes.

The track to Barebraes is the first to get unacessible on the island due to the height and the fact that the dyke and the North gale force winds fills the road quickly. This year we are without the 4x4 so had to make several attempts to get the peedie car out. Once a track had been made it was easier and to be honest not as bad as our first year here when even the 4x4 got stuck.

The only being that relishes this weather is Hooch. The mad snowball eating Dog goes crazy for the white stuff and even enjoys rolling around in it.

This morning I took a very long and enjoyable walk in the warm sunshine and took my camera with me to capture the beauty of the Day

I hope you like them

WInter can be just as good as Summer when you live in a place like Shapinsay.

Beware of the "Yellow Snow" Barebraes, don't let Hooch the Smooch eat the "Yellow Snow"

Tws from The Croft Lewis

I hope your troubles have receded a little by now! Beautiful photos, Barebraes. I like the one with the horse. It looks as if it understands whatever it is you're saying to it.

Jill from EK

The pictures give the impression that you are very isolated, Barebraes: are you? If I remember correctly, you can see the sea from your property, right?

mjc from NM,USA

Jill, it is a very intelligent horse as are most animals and it always comes to say hello. As for the yellow snow tws Hooch prefers the sheep droppings :) And mjc yes we can see the sea practically all round us from every angle theres only a small corner that is blocked by the hill

Barebraes from Shapinsay

thanks barebraes for sharing the lovely scenery with us on ib

carol from under grey skies

I'm glad you said it was a horse Jill, me and Marmers were awful worried that it was a humungous hound *shudder*

Flying Cat from big skies

Oh FC, I thought cats were clever. #4 is a H-O-R-S-E and #5 is a D-O-G. There are no C-A-T-S in sight (male or female). Got it clear now? Then go and lie down and take a rest.

Barney from Swithiod another zoology lesson

Wake up at the back there! mjc. If you look at the bottom picture, ie the one not in the gallery, you can see the sea beyond the end of the fence line and with a small cliff beyond.

Hyper-Borean from Thalassa! Thalassa!

Cats've got more sense. They're all snoozin' by the fire. Dawgs ain't got no sense no sirree! (Sorry Hooch not meanin' no disrespec')

Flying Cat from a warm chair

Fabulous scenery Mrs B - and Hooch looks well. Is that little Starlet still trundling on?

chopper from the lighthouse

I couldnt agree more FC our cat Pickle runs rings around Hooch and he falls for it every time

Barebraes from Shapinsay

Way to go Pickle!!!

Flying Cat from never knowingly stumped

Hi Chopper yes the starlet is still ok touch wood. have you increased your collection of automobiles yet, No bugatti veron !! or spaghetti vera as we say up here?

Barebraes from Shapinsay

Nope, still got the V dub (100,000 miles), the Bimmer and Trevor. Hope to get a 3 series from the firm soon and plan to give little sis the V Dub. Anyone want a 4.4 V8 that does 20 mpg?

chopper from what looks like a used car lot

I am sure that son No ! would like the V8 but he would need a loan for the insurance

Barebraes from Shapinsay

hehe, yeah, sold... but think it'd take more than just a loan to get me insured on that car! will have to settle for the fto i guess :) hope your well. will speak to you very soon. x

Eh, Hyper-B., I thought it was melted snow. Global warming and all that. If there had been a Viking boat at anchor on it, I would have known it to be the sea. When are you coming to visit southern Indiana and huckfinn the Blue River (no, no we won't bother with Whisky Run). Some dead trees floated on our property after the last inundation: we could lash them together and give you a stick to paddle ...
