Bad record

I think I've broken my record for longest time between blogs. Sorry, but I've been very busy. It has been an emotional week on Coll, with two funerals and two weddings. I know one wedding was in Glasgow, but trainee chef has been preparing for it and 'commenting' on the seating arrangements for some time. He has been put in charge of the four year old and wasn't certain the extra alcohol ration would be his. He is only back for another ten days, and then I will have to make the strawberry and white chocolate cheesecakes instead.
He missed a fish delivery of plaice, sole and squid, as well as lots and lots of langoustines. And from one of our dish washers, some advice on how to tell plaice from sole. Sole is pricklier and slipperier. (It doesn't have orange spots either, but you never know when you might go blind!) Squid have a varied diet. While gutting and cleaning them we found small fish, about three inches long, and small prawns in their stomachs. I can see catching a prawn might not be very difficult but I don't see how a squid can swim fast with its tentacles at the front to grab the fish, maybe they suck very hard instead. I was hoping to scrounge some squid for my night off (tonight, and I'm only blogging in the hope my other half will cook supper) but there was none left. I must remember not to tell people how good something is if I want the leftovers.
