Jane,
I hardly think that a strike is the ansewer to Calmacs problems. Honestly I'd like to see a way out of this whole affair, without there being a serious alteration from the system which we so well know and over the years-that being our relationship first with MacBraynes and now CalMac.
There were times when we complained when there were freight and fare increases, but we got in return a good service and that was for a period of many years. The sturdy ships of this company were our pride and joy as well as theirs.
I can only think of such boats as the Lochearn,Lochness and later the Claymore that made the trip from Oban To Lochboisdale three times in the week Summer and Winter year in year out and often in atrocus weather. The crews were mainly of island stock and full of endearing charachter.
To put this service to tender leaves me with many doubts as to it being the success we would all wish for our ultimate wellbeing. Are we then going to let Europe overrule the matter or the Scottish Executive without the matter being taken to Westminster who is more endowed to face the EU through many years of exprrience.

Hi Island Wanderer
Would have to agree with you - the guys on our ferry are great - always ready to lend a hand or help with a query. I've no idea how a change of service provider would impact on the island.
It just seems that Lismore is going through a lot just now when it comes to ferries/fuel/transportation etc...
