BE AFRAID, BE VERY AFRAID, THE MASTER AND COMMANDER
Posted: Monday, 03 March 2008 |
Someone recently poised the question to me...,
"Is there ANYTHING that you ARE afraid of?
Well, surely there is something that each of us is afraid of, be it spiders, heights, flying, or confined spaces.
I'm not afraid of spiders or snakes, although if a Black Mamba wanted to bite my B.U.M., I may have to turn the other cheek. and obviously, if a great white shark came swimming close by, getting up close and personal, I may raise an eyebrow or two.
Over the last week there has been some awful news headlines, from young women being murdered, a nine year old girl going missing last week and still remains missing today.
So yes, I am alert and wary more than frightened, of the weather, storms, earthquakes, of terrorists and of psychopathic murderers. But it does not hinder my life.
So, am I frightened of anything at all??
Well, today as I sat watching the frothing, foaming, angry sea, I thought to myself...
I'm afraid of you,
I always was and I always will be.
Cautiously I ventured out into a sheltered bay, the storm carried on at either side of me, but I was safe, protected by rocks, I had found refuge from the storm.
In the mouth of the bay, I stood for a while taking photographs, I did not notice the swirling waters around my feet. The tide was rushing in.
Time and Tide wait for no man
Mindful of a tragedy which happened a few years ago when at least 21 cockle pickers drowned off Morecambe Bay, I hurried to higher ground.
The cockle pickers had not been so lucky. Working diligently far out in the bay, raking the beach for cockles, they had not noticed the incoming tide.
The tide cut off their escape route and in the growing darkness, they became disorientated and instead of walking to safety, they walked back towards the sea.
All 21 poor souls perished.
Today the weather was petulant
Sunny, calm, still, then brooding clouds gathered, a strong gale blowing, the wind moaning.
The billowing waves rolled in, crashing against the rocks
white froth flew high into the air.
The seagulls fought valiantly against the howling wind, the seals had gone into hiding.
The sea is my only master
She is unforgiving, unrelenting
She does not compromise nor will she negotiate
Whatever your colour, black, white, yellow or brown, she will not discriminate. She doesn't care if you are young or old,
A child or Adult
In summer she will lure you with her blue tranquil waters
So smooth and alluring
She is a temptress, but I will not succumb.
The sea has many tales to tell,
She is bountiful and provides for many
She is home to the creatures we love
Otters, seals, dolphins and whales
But she is a formidable foe and
engulfs the feckless and foolhardy.
the sea commands respect
She is the master
She is my master
The Master and Commander
Defy her at your peril.

OH SPAM-MY BOY, THE BLOGS, THE BLOGS ARE CALLING, FROM COLL TO MULL AND THROUGH THE SCOTTISH ISLES..
Posted: Monday, 03 March 2008 |
Our dear friend and blogging colleague, TWS has made a valiant MUSICAL stand against our comments disappearing. I would like to offer my support to this worthy campaign which is driving our bloggers insane.
Comments are getting caught up in the SPAM FILTER, their late appearance is creating havoc with the flow of creativity and jocular banter.
I would like to support this lyrical, musical stance by offering the following, tongue in cheek, not to be taken seriously renditions:-
First up, should be sung along to the tune of Danny Boy
OH SPAM-MY BOY
Oh SPAM-MY boy, the blogs, the blogs are calling
From Coll to Mull and through the Scottish Isles
The blogs have gone, and all the comments hiding
'Tis you, 'tis you must go and I must bide.
But haste ye back when blogs BEGIN appearing
Or when our comments made, at last begin to show
'Tis I'll be here in sunshine or in shadow
Oh SPAM-MY boy, oh SPAM-MY boy, I love you so

Tune 2 -
AGAINST ALL BLOGS, BY PHIL -TER COLLINS
How can you just BLOG away from me,
when all I can do is watch you leave
I've shared the laughter and the fears,
I've even shared the tears
So take a look at My BLOG, oh there's just an empty space
And there's nothing left here to remind me,
just the memory of this SPACE
Ooh take a look at me now, well there's just an empty space
And you coming back to me is against ALL BLOGS
and that's what I've gotta face
**
Tune No 3
WITH A LITTLE HELP FROM MY BLOGS, by Joe Cock-ups
What would you do
If your blogs don鈥檛 get through
Would you stand up and walk out on me.
Lend me your b-eer
When my blogs don鈥檛 appear,
And I鈥檒l try not to blog out of tune鈥
Ooooo, I get by with a little blogs from my friends鈥.
So if your comments don鈥檛 appear, appear two weeks later and are no longer RELEVANT.... listen to ar kid, Liam, and
鈥淒on鈥檛 Look Back in Anger鈥
cos in the words of Thin Lizzy and the genius that was, Phil Lynott
THE BLOGS ARE BACK IN TOWN !!!
yippee and thank you to Carol
the bestest moderator ever !!
creep, creep, grovel, grovel.......

HARE TODAY, GONE TOMORROW, BUT EVERY CLOUD HAS A SILVER LINING, SO LET'S FLOCK AROUND THE CROP !
Posted: Monday, 10 March 2008 |
AN UPSIDE DOWN WORLD - COTTON WOOL CLOUDS REFLECTED LIKE A MIRROR IN THE SAND
Storm Clouds gather,
Dark, brooding, inky blue and full of menace.
They roll in across the mountains, linger above our oceans,
The seabirds flee for cover
Wildlife hurry to seek shelter from the impending storm 鈥 the air is heavy, tense and foreboding.
The heavens open, lightening strikes, thunder cracks
The minutes pass, then
suddenly it is over and a glimmer of light, a ray of hope shines through...
Sometimes life can be like that,
Full of dark days,
brooding
Days when we feel blue
when something's got to give...
Confined indoors, the weather is our oppressor, our life at a standstill...
Then quite unexpectedly, it is over. The heavy, threatening black clouds are gone, pushed away, they scurry back to whence they came...
Something more powerful
More positive
More joyous takes over...
It radiates warmth and happiness, signals a better future and new beginnings..
The sun breaks through and with it,
blue skies, fluffy white clouds and gentle winds.
Our spirits are lifted
We work in the garden
Go for walks
Stroll along the beach.
Catch up on repairs and our DIY .
Like a spring bulb hidden beneath dark soil for too long
We begin to emerge.
The sun has coaxed us out of darkness
The sun is our saviour and we look forward to the year in front of us, the warm weather, sunny days, picnics, holidays and family get togethers.
Spring has sprung, it is everywhere, the first signs of Spring
Lambs and daffodils, Easter Eggs
Children playing in the garden, laughing and joyful
New life is everywhere.
We awake to the sweet song of the birds.
Meadows come alive with fragrant colourful flowers
Romance blooms and is there anything prettier than a blushing Spring Bride?
The island awakes from her slumber..
A new day has dawned...
and with it hope and optimisim....
For many months, I have been trying to capture a photograph of one of our beautiful brown hares. Never have I been quick enough until yesterday.
There lying in the sunshine was 鈥. A hare
HARE TODAY, GONE TOMORROW...
He saw me, sat up, then squat down, his ears flat to his head
He was playing hide and seek.
Snap, snap, snap, I was ready for him this time. He did not linger and in a hare's breath, he was gone.
I won't rabbit it on about it, but to me it was pretty hare raising !!!
Throughout the day I dodged showers, got pelted with hailstones, basked in spring sunshine. And once the storm clouds had disappeared I managed to take photos of the beautiful cotton wool clouds over Cliad.
Back home, I uploaded the photos, and noticed something quite bizzare, the world seemed to be upside down.
Clouds were on the ground
What on earth was happening??? The beach, so smooth and wet had reflected the clouds like a mirror.
So if you think your life is a bit upside down right now...
Look at it from all angles
and just like the upside down clouds in the photograph
Things will become clearer and
you will eventually come out on TOP
On top of the world where you belong...
Introducing the one and only FANK Sinatra...singing his famous hit, N-ewe Yolk, N-ewe Yolk
Followed by that famous quote by tough guy, Mr. Cagney, in White Heat..."On Top of the World Baaa"
and finally, singalong to Bill HAY-ley with that 50's classic, Flock around the Crop,
BubbleShare: - Find great .
My goodness, I will be humming that tune all day now....
One, two, three o'clock, four o'clock, rock,
Five, six, seven o'clock, eight o'clock, rock,
Nine, ten, eleven o'clock, twelve o'clock, rock,
We're gonna rock around the clock tonight.
Hope you all had a good weekend and survived the weather !!!

HONESTY IS THE BEST POLICY, HONEST !!

BubbleShare: - Powered by BubbleShare
One of the nicest things of living on an island, is the people and the values they hold.
The values, such as spoken about recently by TWS and Acutely Curious. Trust and Honesty.
Islanders rely on each other to some extent to help out, keep a watch on the children, lend a hand if needed.
But one thing which has made a lasting impression on me is the honesty.
Leaving your car unlocked,
Purse, credit card, 拢400 camera
all on the front seat
in view and
completely
UNTOUCHED
And so it is on small islands,
Take for instance the honesty box. Left out 365 days of the year and sailors mooring their vessels in the bay, leave money in the box.
I have only ever seen this in a few places, one being the North Yorkshire Moors where farmers leave Eggs and vegetables on a stall by the road. There is a box to leave money and you take whatever you choose of the farmers' wares.
In return the farmer trusts you to leave the appropriate money.
What kind of person could steal from a honesty box???
In contrast, I have read with horror that my former home town of Selby has now had to introduce a QUIET ZONE in one area of the town. And the reasons?
"Rowdy revellers using the area as a cut-through after a night out are causing numerous problems, including urinating through letterboxes and throwing pizzas against windows.
Isn't this just disgraceful??
There is crime on islands, and indeed people have blogged about it, we would be foolish to think that no crime exists
But to have someone wee through your letterbox
or throw a pizza at your windows, well,
as I say, it's just disgraceful.
Being honest is a great human quality
Being able to trust someone is a great comfort
Honesty and trust
Integrity
humour and kindness
If we possess these qualities then I suppose we
really are a good human being, a Good Egg !!
But if all the GOOD EGGS get eaten - what are we left with??
EXACTLY !!
Have a lovely Easter everyone.xxxx
