Having a whale of a time!

Its been a busy and beautiful summer here in Fetlar.
School is now back and we are having a whale of a time.
Orca

Orca

These pictures of killer whales were taken at the beginning of August from our ferry (but not by us). The Orcas have been seen several times this year in Bluemull Sound. There is a video of them jumping out of the sea on a well known video hosting website.

Just thought we'd blog them.

I am back to school as well--have a good year. Are the whales wanting to be your school mascot?

That's a great idea, Outlander. Fetlar PS already has a mascot, but the whale would be easier to draw, perhaps?

Glad you posted these pictures. On my voyage we saw 2 minkies really close in the Moray Firth, some porpoises and dolphins and 3 or 4 basking sharks on the west coast, otherwise nothing! Except seals which are so common they don't really score high marks. And an eagle on the Ross of Mull. Much fewer sea denizens than previous years.

In August, we visited Fetlar for the first time . We saw your school and wondered who the lucky children are who go there. We imagined you walking up the hill and wondered if you ever get a lift by car? We had a delicious lunch in your community hall and saw your work at the interpretive centre. We loved Fetlar and would like to visit again. PS. i am a teacher and wish I could work in your school!
