Uyeasound Up Helly Aa

On the eighth of February, Fetlar School went to the Uyeasound Up Helly Aa’. First we went to Baltasound to see the Jarl squad and their galley. It was really cool and I took lots of pictures of it.

Later they came into the school and let the primaries of Baltasound and Fetlar have a go of their shields, helmets and axes. A lot of the time I was taking pictures of many different people such as Vikings, kids playing with axes and teachers playing with axes.

Later we went to the burning site to see them burn the galley. It was half past seven so it was quite dark. I really had a good time. The fire was really hot and the boat burned really fast.
Galley on fire

We left at about quarter to nine, but by then the boat had burned away to just about nothing. I had a really good time and I can't wait for next Up Helly Aa’.

Well, some of them. Most Swedish vikings went East and eventually founded Russia (rus = red in old Scandinavian). Thanks for your nice comments and super photo. Wish I'd been there!
