Taxi for Fetlar?

Last Thursday we saw the Greenpeace ship Arctic Sunrise anchored in Tresta Wick. We thought that this was too good an opportunity to miss so we phoned the press office in London to see if either we could visit them or they could visit us.
On Friday they sailed away and we thought that we had missed the boat.

Luckily for us they remembered our request when they returned on Bank Holiday Monday. After lots of frantic phone calls they tracked down our school phone number and we arrange to go across on the rib for a short tour.

The pupils have written their own accounts of this visit and these will appear in a blog shortly. (Our internet connection keeps going.)

It was great though. A different start to a Tuesday morning!

Thanks to Greenpeace for arranging it all at such short notice.

Greenpeace lollies.

Jill: www.fetlar.shetland.sch.uk/news/greenpeace_arctic_sunrise.shtml has the pupils own thoughts and more pictures. I don't think the blogs will be ready by the end of today as we're having dificulty compressing the photos.

You lucky lucky things! And the French weren't there to sink it so that was good too...

Just looked at the photos on your website. Really good! Your school sounds perfect, must be the envy of schools in other places that would never have the chance for such a great day out and all the other interesting things you do. Mind you, I'd have had reservations about the speedboat!

I'm not so sure about Greenpeace now that I've seen their antics regarding the cod fishing - they are behaving very dangerously for themselves and the fishermen.

Eco Friends? Or Eco Foes? Sometimes Greenpeace do things, just to get their name on the tv news channels, I know this from experience. They love to do " Stunts " that get great news coverage, whether they are right or wrong does not bother the activists, getting coverage is the name of the game, so that they will get the money coming in from those who think that Greenpeace is a worthy cause. Some things they do and help with are worthy, but they're not always right.
