Jumping on the bandwagon

Cat blogs. Not really my cup o tea, FC excepted, of course. However, my cat Chibley has been on an adventure recently, and he deserves a blog to himself.
Basically the adventure is something only he can tell you about, but as he so far has not shown FC's capability with our language it will remain a mystery to us all. Apart from saying that the adventure lasted about 3 weeks and we saw nothing of him during that time, and, in fact, had thought he was lying in a frozen lump on a hill somewhere on Unst.
I had actually been trying to rehome him at the time, and when the Cat Protection League phoned me I had to say, 'Yes, please keep him on your list, but at the moment I don't know if he is alive or not.'
Anyway, I was hanging oot my washing on Tuesday and he walked across the garden to see me as if nothing had happened. So, I will now continue to look for a suitable new home for him, and in case you are looking for a cat yourself, here are a couple of photos.

Norik Up Helly Aa (Unsts second UHA)
Posted: Monday, 05 March 2007 |
On Saturday night the weather cleared beautifully to provide perfect galley burning conditions.
This year I took my 4 bairns with me to UHA, which they all enjoyed immensely. We joined the rest of the spectators at Norik beach in time to watch the procession of squads come doon the Floggie, torches in hand, singing out the Up Helly Aa song, and it was a fine sight to see the galley going up in flames when all the torches had been thrown in.
Everyone then gathered at the Haroldswick Hall for an evening of excellent entertainment, where the squads performed their acts, and later we danced to Da Fustra, one of Shetlands best dance bands. (Of which there are many!)
I took some pics of the procession, but sorry, was too busy enjoying myself to get the camera oot for the acts!

Entrepreneurship and Norwegian Visitors
Posted: Friday, 09 March 2007 |
In February, you may remember, a group of budding entrepreneurs from Shetland's North Isles went on a trip to Norway to discover how their small businesses can survive in rural areas. Now, completing the exchange, we have some Norwegian (and one Highlander) as our guests in the North Isles.
As I have been at work all week, I have not been able to take many photos of their visit, but they were in Fetlar on Thursday and Unst today. Today also included a visit to Baltasound Junior High School, where I work, so I managed a few photos at last.
I'll also post some photos of the Norway visit, which was an excellent trip and gave us a few good ideas to think about.

Mac at Norik beach
Posted: Friday, 30 March 2007 |
I've had my old dog staying with me for a few days. (In case you are confused, Mac used to be mine, then he bacame Herman's, and now he belongs to Muness. And just to thoroughly blur the issue, Damadcoo occasionally borrows him.)
Anyway, he is a lovely dog, although sometimes he lets himself down in the personal hygiene department. As the word 'bath' is an evil one to Mac's ears, the solution to this dilemma is a dip in the sea which he loves. Here's a few pics of his favourite sport entitled 'What Else Is There In Life Apart From A Ball.'
