Entrepreneurship and Norwegian Visitors

In February, you may remember, a group of budding entrepreneurs from Shetland's North Isles went on a trip to Norway to discover how their small businesses can survive in rural areas. Now, completing the exchange, we have some Norwegian (and one Highlander) as our guests in the North Isles.

As I have been at work all week, I have not been able to take many photos of their visit, but they were in Fetlar on Thursday and Unst today. Today also included a visit to Baltasound Junior High School, where I work, so I managed a few photos at last.

I'll also post some photos of the Norway visit, which was an excellent trip and gave us a few good ideas to think about.

A superb meal of home grown and cured meats at Hologarstun. See www.hologardstun.no for more info.

Group photo at Bakka in Nærøfjord

Anders showing Derek his amazing self-built Viking boat. (Unfortunately under cover for winter, but nonetheless very impressive.)

More classroom work. (It had to be done.)

Hyper-Borean from A different kitchen

Kjaere Gud, Hyper is falling into a mire of Engliwegian!

Flying Cat from a linguistic coil

Did you notice the duct tape along the boat hull, Hyper-B? Caveat, my dear chap.

mjc from NM,USA

Hi mjc, I think the duct tape is only holding the plastic sheeting on. More to the point, what about the cat's cradle of ropes holding it down. Do you think they get the same sort of winds that we get here and in Shetland?

Hyper-Borean from Da noust

what is the mush in the third picture??

carol from france

Oh dear, Carol, have you not been following the FC blog story about moose-hovering? Hover your moose above the piccies and all will be revealed.

Ruthodanortt from Unst

thanks ruthodanortt!! all is clear to me at last

carol from france

But not to me...did Hyper-B get it right? My blasted moose can hover for days to no avail. And the vole I caught the other day was no use either...

Flying Cat from all over the joint

fc: try catching something that goes hisss

carol from france

...errrrrm...a pressure cooker?.....

Flying Cat from ahissyfit

Just love Anders' hat in the boat picture. Do you know if it gets good radio reception?

Annie B from the usual

I thought it was a gigantic nipple...thank goodness for the commonsense of AnnieB....nasty thoughts of poor man's brains being sucked oot by a huge baby can now be banished!

Flying Cat from senseless in seehattle

fc:- something thats about 1m50 in length ,wriggles about and goes hiss, gertrude loves them-she throws the head up after half an hour!!

carol from france

One metre and a half in length eh? Carol for goodness sake, I've had to give fpu a big dose of mogadon, she was getting that excited....

Flying Cat from infearandtrembling

Annie B, Anders hat is really great, and the best thing about it is that he made it himself. Viking boats and nipple hats, a truly gifted man.

Ruthodanort from Unst

fc: does fpu like grass snakes? strange woman

caroldiying with laughter from france

Errrrrm yes she does. Afpu kept a grass snake in the kitchen sink once. The Skye Serpentarium is a pretty cool place... Tho' I'm not sure that's what got her all hot and bothered before... Bipeds are wierd.

Flying Cat from a reptilian gaze

yor fpu is a braver woman than me,fc if i see a big worm in the garden i'm screaming, grass snakes sometime make me faint
