UK's most northerly bairns to sail to Norway

The Swan, Shetland

Next June 9 of our older schoolbairns and 2 staff (including me!) will join the crew of the Swan in Baltasound Harbour and sail to Norway. It will be a very 'hands on' experience, with everyone taking part in the watch system & having a go at sailing the boat. We will spend about a week exploring Norway (it may take us that long to recover from the outward journey!) before we sail home to Baltasound again.

Lets hope the weather's as good as it was today, we had beautiful blue skies & even did a spot of filming at the beach for our school Christmas play.

Bouncy Castle Party - for a 51st birthday.....

Well, today Maggi turned 21 again.

She had to better last year's party, which was pretty good, & was complete with a flashing coo, (not the kind with lights), so she hired oot the leisure centre for a bouncy castle party. All o us owld folk had a great time bouncing for an hour, & then of course there was pass the parcel, (twice), dancing to Agadoo (well, whaddya expect fae folk oor age?), and pass the banana. Yes, I did say banana.
And the flashing coo made an appearance again. It has vibrating udders. Not for the faint-hearted.

Odysseus & The Little Drummer Boy

Tonight our school did a good job. In fact, our 2 peedie plays geed aff withoot a hitch. It all geed doon a treat with our packed house, which seemed really pleased with the slightly unusual mix of plays. The Nativity play was everything a nativity should be, with sweet children looking gorgeous in shepherd, angel & king costumes, and the choir sounding lovely.
Odysseus has involved a lot of filming aroond & aboot Unst since October which has been great fun. The production was a cross between a film and a musical, with the filmed parts shown on the back of the stage & the acting & singing taking place in front. It all worked really well. Our music department has been working it's 4 socks off & really deserve the night out that we're having tomorrow. (Staff Xmas Doo).
The DVD of Odysseus is available shortly!!!
I'm gonna have to get a pic up here tho of our jannie being Poseidon at the beach at Haroldswick. He was rather brave, going clean under the water in December in nuthin but his draars, a wig & a scrap o cloot!!

Holidays!

Today is our Christmas Day!! I know the 22nd is a bit early, but my bairns go to their Dad in Yell damorn so for us yesterday wis Christmas Eve, today is the big day itself, and damorn is Boxing Day.
We've had a great time, opening our pressies this morning - the bairns did really well, only getting up at 7.40am, a luxury for parents worldwide on Christmas Day, I ken.
The dog & cat got pressies too - a tin of 'posh nosh' for Chibley the cat, and 2 pig ears for Mac our collie. (Yes, he agrees, they are pretty mingin, they're still in his bowl & will be in the bin soon.)
We've been for a walk to Norik beach while the beef roasted - the dog went for a swim which was very welcome cos he rolled in some unknown smelly stuff yesterday & has been stinking ever since.
We've since had our brilliant dinner and are now letting it settle before the next course - squidgy chocolate log. (It's a Delia recipe & is absolutely brilliant. Dontcha just love Delia recipies? She's no feart o a few calories!)
Well, better go, the bairns are gettin restless.
Cheers fur noo & hae a good holiday!!
