Posted: Wednesday, 07 November 2007 |
Septic Peg made a welcome return last week, to tell the fortunes o the bairns that came round my hoose guisin on Halloween.
She's had a bit o a change in her appearance since last year, can you tell what it is?

That time of year again..
Posted: Monday, 19 November 2007 |
I am fiercely ignoring all those Christmas adverts online and on tv, but nevertheless this is the time of the Christmas Craft Fair season. So yesterday I spent the afternoon manning my stall at the Craft Fair here in Baltasound, ably assisted by the glamerous Muness Views and my oldest lass.
It was a successful day, much better than last year's event, and next weekend we're off to Lerwick for the Shetland Arts and Crafts Fair at the Clickimin, so now I'm frantically trying to re-stock!
About a month ago I went to a training day about e-commerce, run by Initiative at the Edge. I opened an ebay shop when I was there, but so far I've not got any stock in it! It will be a worthwhile experiment I think, when I eventually get some stuff on my virtual shelves. Has anyone else got any experience of ebay shops or e-commerce in general?
So far I've not exactly made a fortune doing this, in fact, I've spent more than I've made to date. But I enjoy it, and it keeps me busy.

Dag Blog
Posted: Tuesday, 27 November 2007 |
Dag, one of IB's frequent commentors, emailed me recently with a few pics and a few lines about Norway at this time of year. I thought it was an interesting description of Norsky life, and asked him I could blog it, so with Dag's permission, here it is.....
Hei Ruth!
I am sorry it has been such a long time since I wrote to you.
I have been offline for while.
Autumn is not my best season. I feel like the bear who wants to sleep all winter. It's all about the lack of light. I have always been like this since I was a kid. We have high mountains so when we look out the window , we don't see the sky.
But October was nice with good weather and frost. We have had just one stormy day. The weather was bad in the North Sea, probably in Shetland too.
I am looking forward to January and snow. I think we will get snow this winter. We have no sun now. The sun left us 11.Nov and will not reurn before 1.Feb. But in January I can see that the days are getting longer. I start to feel alive again. Spring , summer and early autumn are my favourite seasons.
Our daughters are doing fine in Trondheim. We are going on a family trip to Aberdeen and do the Christmas shopping. In fact it's not quite true, I don't like the big cities, we are going to stay in Inverurie. I hope to buy one or five bottles of single malt. But it's only a weekend trip, but I looking foreward eating haggis and black pudding ( a wee dram too)
We had a little trip to Lysefjorden and watched Preikestolen from the other side of the fjord. I think I've said that I have fallen in love with Icelandic horses. We are planing to buy a few, but first they need a room a " stall" We are hoping to start building a boathouse, a naust and Rome was not built in one day. So I have to do like Stalin, make a 5 years plan.
The area around Lysefjorden is called " Litla Island" . It is the area in Norway which has most " islandshestar". There are more horses than people, they say.
Eg sender nokre bileter
Ha det
Dag
"Eg sender nokre bileter" means he's included some pictures. And here they are...
This was a photo Dag sent after his trip to some of the Scottish Distilleries in summer. It's quite a collection!!
