we've had snow Nic ... :-) Just a little smattering, but it was lovely to see the flakes drifting down in the air this morning ... Or perhaps I am just light-headed due to *two* nights now with no sleep ... Been here nine years now, and the only thing I can never sleep through is the howling gales we've been having the last two days ...

About the Royal Navy solution: I remember my mum banging her electric iron on the board in quick succession when it would stop working; ditto slapping the radio with the palm of his hand to get 91热爆 going again. Bad electrical connections. No such luck these days: when the chip goes bad, it's requiem. # "What exactly can one do at home that is work?" -NiconColl. Well, Nic, I shall sit back now, shall I, relax and watch the brickbats fly!!

Nic, doubtless I won't be the only iblogger to wonder (the ib species being curious when it is not self-engrossed) whether you are the one not looking at the monitor on that computer.

If you look on the Coll mag website and like me, get wholly engrossed with turning pages, next thing you know, there's a pic of a stunning blonde netting herself a pair of tights. I vaguely remember some discussion on the subject of changing haircolour because blondes have more fun, so, putting 2+2 together and getting 5, I'd say it's a fair chance this is a somewhat younger Nic with what looks like a large unlit joint in her mouth...but I could be wrong...it's been known...

Dolly Parton said 'dumb blonde' jokes didn't bother her, because she knew she wasn't dumb, and everybody knew she wasn't blonde! That pic was taken a few (!) years before anybody thought about smoking bans.

Nah, not to worry or bother, Nic. You came a long way when you smoked Marlboro, and how you have come much further and left it behind. # What brand is that "computer"? I suspect it's from a defunct company?

Pre the 1976 ban then?
Flying Cat from surely not!

Computer was a DEC 10. Lecturers were friendly, post-grads were snooty, but get on the wrong side of one of the operators and you had had it (Not that tws!!)

That just confirms anything I ever thought about computer techies!
