Hallò a’ chàirdean, agus fàilte gu “Mu Thimcheall”, còmhla riumsa, Linda ’s mi gu bhith toirt thugaibh facail a tha mi an dòchas a bhios feumail agus is urrainn dhuibh a chleachdadh gach latha.

Today, I’m at home and going into the kitchen to make a cup of tea, cupa tì, cup of tea. An-diugh tha mi aig an taigh agus tha mi a’ dol dhan chidsin airson cupa tì a dhèanamh.

To make a cup of tea, I need a cup. Airson cupa tì a dhèanamh, feumaidh mi cupa fhaighinn. Cupa – cup. Cupa – or if you’re from Lewis, copan. Cupa.

Now, to make tea, I’ll need to boil water in the kettle.

Kettle – in Gaelic, coire. Coire.

The Gaelic for boil is goil. Goil.

Water is uisge. Uisge.

Tha mi a’ goil uisge anns a’ choire – I’m boiling water in the kettle, tha mi a’ goil uisge anns a’ choire.

While I’m waiting, I’ll make some toast. Fhad ‘s a tha mi feitheamh, nì mi tost. I keep bread in this cupboard. Bread – in Gaelic, aran. Aran.

Tha mi a’ cur slis arain dhan tostair – I’m putting a slice of bread in the toaster. Tha mi a’ cur slis arain dhan tostair. Slis arain – a slice of bread, slis arain.

O – siud an t-uisge air goil! That’s the water boiled, siud an t-uisge air goil!

Now I need milk. The Gaelic for milk, is bainne. Milk. Bainne.

Tha mi a’ cur bainne na mo thì – I’m putting milk in my tea, tha mi a’ cur bainne na mo thì – but of course lots of people take sugar as well. The Gaelic for sugar is siùcar. Siùcar.

Tha mi air bainne agus siùcar a chur dhan tì agam – I’ve put milk and sugar in my tea, tha mi air bainne agus siùcar a chur dhan tì agam agus a-nise feumaidh mi a chur mun cuairt; I need to stir it. Feumaidh mi a chur mun cuairt.

Stir – cuir mun cuairt; literally, “put around.” Cuir mun cuairt.

Tha mi a’ cur an tì agam mun cuairt le spàin-bheag. Spàin-bheag – a teaspoon; literally, little spoon. Spàin-bheag. Teaspoon. Spàin-bheag.

Siud an tì agam deiseil - that’s my tea ready, siud an tì agam deiseil...

Oh agus tha an tost agam deiseil cuideachd! My toast is ready as well.

Tha an t-àm ann a-nise beagan fois a ghabhail – I’m going to relax with my tea and toast now, but remember you can listen to this lesson again or find a list of the vocabulary used on our website, bbc.co.uk/beagairbheag. Chun an ath thuras, tìoraidh an-dràsta!
