Clearly, there is nothing like home cooking. Dieting will not be on the menu when those young folks get home. Good for them.

Rain is battering against the windows here. It has basically rained since Saturday afternoon. Friday was a superb day for the Pillage - we rowed the skiff from Bowmore to Bruichladdich then round the Oa to Laphroaig, Lagavulin and Ardbeg then on up the Sound of Islay as the sun was setting to Caol Ila and Bunnahabhain. Had to "sleep" on a bench near the pier there for three hours in the middle of the night while we waited for the tide to turn - then rowed back down the Sound, round the bottom of Jura and up to Craighouse. Tired after that and the last crew had it tough coz the weather deteriorated. My bits were much easier. Good fun but was glad to get to my bed. Going to Orkney on Friday for some serious stones. Glad to hear all is well.
Carl Reavey from PC
How do you cook Hebridean chicken? Why is it different to Malawian chicken?

Hope you can get us a photo for the paper that comes out on Saturday - we would need it for Thursday morning absolute latest.... In view of the various references to Hebridean/Hebridian chicken, would someone care to elaborate on its ancestry, preparation etc? Is it as good as Popeye's spicy chicken? Are the gizzards etc. used to make Hebridean gravy? Are they like powdermilk biscuits, and do they make all the adolescents above average? Must it be prepared in a twenty year old Aga/Rayburn for the flavor to come out? Acutely curious (eh?!) ...
mjc from NM,USA
