All the best. Lilongwe is a long way, but you'll get there sooner or later, probably later than sooner, and hopefully with all your luggage. Live and learn (both being quite important). Seriously, good to hear about such adventurous young folks. Keep us posted.

Clean clothes!! As one long distance traveling group sneeringly said to another bunch of teenagers slogging it on the Continental Divide trail in Wyoming: " I can smell fresh clothes." Fighting words. # The kids will be fine, Sandy's mum. If history is any guide, they may even keep a clean pair of clothes for the last leg home, just in consideration for the parents' mental health. Nothing new under the sun.

If one should wake up in one's tent one Malawi morning and think, "I know what I am going to do today - I am going to wash my smalls" - how would one go about it? Is a launderette an option or does one pop down to the local Spar and purchase a packet of Omo with a view to a spot of hand washing? Assuming one could procure aforementioned Omo, could one locate a bowl/receptacle in which to hand irrigate icky smalls? Have they taken a smalls washing bowl with them? Or would one head for a handy local school and borrow a convenient sink? Interesting problem. I feel the smalls situation should be carefully monitored throughout the trip and notes taken as to levels of enterprise displayed. Can I suggest each student keeps a smalls diary? I am not sure about photographs however. I feel written accounts would be sufficient in this instance.

Suzy? as in "Wake up, wake up Little Suzy"? I assume the IHS volunteer brigade are woken up to the sound of reveille (played on the camp sound system using an ipod). I can imagine the yummy local breakfast: organic eggs, streak o lean bacon, kippers, shiitake mushrooms, braised tomatoes, and, the coup de grace, Heinz baked beans. Allowing for poetic license, this is the kind of breakfast the Irish brothers (who taught us in the tropics) had. Can't blame them: (then) I would too, if I could.

Jan and Carl, you may not want to read their impressions of Malawi on the blog, not until they have returned safely. Unless, of course, they have been wisely instructed to sing pageants to Paradise (Postponed) - its great leaders, its booming economy, the depth of its latrines, the fineness of the tapioca/ manioc etc. I don't want to read about any deportation of the IHS gang on the 91热爆 website. Debriefing afterwards, please.
