'A picture says a thousand words' Thank you for posting, O.G. Your photos of Luing recall many happy memories for me!

Another fixer-upper, if I have seen one. Fred? Hallooo Fred? # Is this the property advertised not too long ago in the Orkney rag- or was it the Stornoway Tablet? - : Cottage/croft on Luing, needs tlc (not to mention a sub-prime mortgage), Yanks need not apply (a charitable, cousin-loving provision, obviously). # Have you branched into real estate, Oriental Ghost?

in Lewis we call that affordable housing!

calum from lewis

...sustainable affordable housing...

Maybe the history group could repair it !

What do you think, Fred? What do Luing-ers think? What should it be? The wrecking ball or the Luing Preservation Trust? Future home of the Luing Gardeners Club?

This has definitely got Fred potential. A new roof and he would be away ... And just think what he could do with the water wheel! Great photos, OG, thank you.

Jill from EK

Yes Jill, that water wheel got me salivating. What would I not do to get my hand on old water wheel set up, with directed water and such?!! If I lived on Luing I would be mighty tempted to make a (low) bid on that "croft in ruinous state" ... just to get hold of that flowing water and the water wheel!! And Fred could fix it up during his vacations (righto Fred, free Walls steak and kidney pies coming up!) ...

Affordable housing, maybe. However, clearly, judging by the angles of the roof, not exactly sustainable.

WOW....would love to get my hands on this one , any backers.....You wont get a morgage on this? but a fantastic opportunity for someone we were hoping to get another property as a holiday home for visitors, but alas exhaulsted my money on my house.

Fred Blogs from Point

Oh I see from your last picture the roof has now caved in, but it can still be put right, just watch out for that water ingress from the back of the property fulling towards the house that could be problematic with constant damp?

Fred Blogs from Point

Constant damp, Fred? Is there any place on Luing, or on the islands generally, where it is not damp? Oh yes, that's me, high and and dry in the desert.

OK, OG, time to wake up and show us a picture of the cottage in process of renovation, beginning with a new roof (I should think, but then maybe I am awfully materialistic and spoilt).
