Sanday Sunday

Well, the day was oor Sanday Sunday, and yours truly and her himself hauled the warp weighted loom at tae the school hall. Thanks tae Beth for the lift, for the puir woman had tae offload her ain gear first afore she could come back doon tae oor hoose and load up the loom, which is gey long and only just fit intae the four by four. Beth, you`re an awfy kind and patient woman! *big grin*
So there`s a couple o` photos here, one o` an Orkney vole I rescued frae the cat, one o` the hall being set up afore folks started coming in, a couple o` (hoping I get the name right here!) Mr Sean Brassfield-Thorpe who teaches Stav and who was also patient showing weapons o` various kinds tae yours truly...well, ye a` ken what I`m like wi` sharp, pointed and lethal weapons! *another big grin*....if I could hae come hame wi` the axes, I would....
Oh aye, the other pic is o` me and himself stringing the heddle. Nae matter what it looks like. It also shows how trusting the other half is.....*wink*

Then in the afternoon, Mr and Mrs Sanday Housewife came wi` us tae the beach, we a` took oor bows and had great fun at archery! Thon target was one hundred yards away. Did yours truly hit it? Well, no...but I`d guid fun trying! Archery is a grand way tae spend a Sunday afternoon. I hope ye a` had a grand weekend tae and that the sun shines on us a` for the rest o` the week.

The Sanday voles must be much more grateful and much less fierce than the Mainland ones...the new oatmeal carpet had only been down for an eyeblink when a vole was brought in, and when fpu rushed to its rescue, there was blood on the carpet (not the vole's). This necessitated the introduction of the 'voletube', handsfree and bloodless!

Thanks for these pics, Hermit. Have you any of the loom in action? I hope FC enjoys the vole photo - I believe he is rather partial to these.

ps Did you rescue the vole from FC ??

the weather girl from over here

I like the axes. The handles are extra long, are they not? Are they "authentic"? Last picture down: yes, trusting old soul.

Either yer man is 8 feet tall, or you're 4 feet nothing, Which is it? I know you're on the small side, but I never realised how small, maybe a new name. How about The Littlest Hermit? ( did you see wot I did there HL? Well didya? ) I shouldn't be making fun at your size, but I'm laughing with you, not at you, yeah!! I will do an apology later on this week.

weather girl the Sanday Sunday was grand, nice and sunny, but did ye save the rain up for today, lol? Tws, I`m a whole five foot tall I`ll have ye know...himself is six two. I occasionally answer to shorta*se...;-)

In that last pic ... Why doesnt yer man look worried about where you have that pole ?

Mara from Wet Southern Orkney

Hermit is quite petite but I wouldn't have said 4 foot nothing, Tws. Fpu may well ahve 'rescued' the vole from me, Carol, but I prefer 'stolen'...

hermit: today it has been pg down most of the day-at last someone who's smaller than me:: i'm all of 5ft2!!

tws's weather girl from getting readyfor choir practise

Petite, Hermit may be, but she doubtless packs a wallop, Daughter is 5 ft. 1, but when she wears high heels (whether with skirt or pants suit), she is a presence to be reckoned with. The posture is particularly important when one is petite, but clearly Hermit has an excellent upright posture. Self-confidence is another, and I suspect Hermit has oodles! [yes, Hermit, I'll take soup and home made bread as in-kind rewards!!].

91热爆-made sook, more like...

Flying Cat from a hard stare

You are the one who is a big sook, Grounded Cat (air traffic controllers are having their hourly breaks, I suppose). Where did you find that kiwi word?! Not by reading the Orkney weekly, I suspect. I had to google it. Now of course, if I were to call you a shnook, you would not have to consult your Yiddish Words and Phrases (OUP), would you?

mjc from NM,USA

hands mjc a bowl o` tattie soup and hame made breid. though, i have nae confidence at a` and am the shyest creature ye can meet. Really!
