The Sea Stallion

I was in toon on Thursday, visiting me daughter, wi` the son. As we got off the ferry (the Varagen, for a change, usually it`s one o` the Earls) there was, in Kirkwa` harbour, the famed Sea Stallion. A bonny replica o` a Viking longship found in Denmark, I think.
I took some pictures but me digicam is pretty bad, so here they are, the ship was awfy low in the water, due tae the tide being weel oot. I saw nae brawny Viking fellas, much tae me disappointment, but the ship herself was well worth the look. The Viking age is a passion o` mine, and it`s always a grand thing tae see ony kind o` reenactment or recreation o` it. Fair made me day.

lucky you seeing this so soon after your feast!

carol from where the heavens have opened

I watched the show, and oh but it was something else to see the ship out at sea, waveriding. What a magnificent creature she is! Wish I could have been there. *wonders if I can attach oars to the Sigurd....and a square sail..and mebbe draft in some viking types for crew....*

Hermit from in love with a ship!

Timewatch is filming the voyage - there's more about it here http://www.bbc.co.uk/history/programmes/vikingvoyage/

The boat has sailed long ago maybe back again next year on her homeward voyage if there are enough viking sailors to sail row or tow her. My own lad from n.z. was sailing on her and its a bonnie thing to hear you say you saw her. Wave riders indeed its maybe time to reinvent the courage it took for each soul on that voyage, we have not yet heard their real stories, and I think it is time now before the return to Roskilde next year
