Your skins are gorgeous, Hermit. Fpu has always wanted to keep the skins of deceased feline friends, but has not either the nerve or the know-how to do the job properly...*shudder*

In Norway we eat a lot of goat cheese, mostly the brown one. It tastes like milkchocolate. Foreigners don't like it, they are only familiar with the white one. I will bring a brown cheese with me when we are coming to Orkney.

Not bad, not bad. In fact, pretty good. Beats the usual parlor decorations by a mile and a half. Say Hermit, have you joined the Viking equivalent of the NRA?

Hermit, what is the hide on the left? A cow hide? When tanned, are the cowhides and goat hides soft and pliable (like the sheep ones)? No goat hides mentioned on your website: would they be special order? Ibid. with patterned (rather than mono-chrome) cow hides. I discovered your nice website today.

hermit - re lake of lovely goatsmilk ... if you could find local soapmaker (is there one on Orkney?), and if she were worth her salt, she would take some of the excess off your hands with hi-fallutin' Thankyous ...! Then you could have a 'co-operative' product to sell ... :-) Goatsmilk soap is a wonderful thing ... and supposed to be very kind for the skin too ...

There are parental units hereabouts who don't exactly remember the brown Norwegian goatsmilk cheese as tasting like chocolate, but are far too polite to elaborate....fpu loved the supermarket shelves bursting with cartons of fruit yogurt drinks tho', and the street stalls bursting with summer berries....and the Bergen fishmarket...

that`s a grand idea Soaplady, no sure if there are soapmakers nearby but will ask and see. mjc, the skins are goat on the right and the other twa, coohides, there`s another coohide (complete with heid) on another wall. They are soft and supple, it just taks a wee bit o` work tae mak` them like that. :-) Dag, I`ve never tasted brown cheese, only the white! I mak twa types, a soft cottage type and one that is awfy like thon commercial cream cheese ye can buy, which is me favourite. Hiya Frodo, no, nae conflict, I`m a practical lassie at heart. ;-)

Listening to the silence sounds wonderful to me, Hermit, although I don't think I could cope with all the injured birds you seem to get. Hope the OC will be OK.

FC, when the time comes, I hope FPU and MPU will bear in mind that, in memoriam, I would rather have you stuffed (and shipped to me, shrink wrapped, overnight delivery, prepaid). I would rather talk to you than step on you, FC: of course, you won't be able to answer back (unless a cpu and assorted electronic internalia are forced inside), praise the laird. I would put you right up there on the TV, by the cat's ears/antennae, close by the box containing Father Ted's DVDs. A cozy arrangement for all. Whaddya think?

The oyster catchers are having a hard time up here, I found one with a broken wing but alas it had to be put out of its misery as there was nothing we could do for it. The RSPB man said it was the kindest thing to do

Just have to put in my two cents, if no-one cares for the gjetost (I probably didn't spell that right) that Dag might bring, I will be more than glad to take it off their hands! That's the only request I ever have ask from my family to bring me. Love it, love it , love it!

Oh, macQ from NMtoo: do you have the gjetost (or whatever) with green or red? on or side?
