The barley crop is a-breer! and other photos

We were driving by one of the barley fields and Erlend said, "Ach! The barley is a-breer!" Of course I said, "Huh?" Breer = sprouting! It's SO COOL seeing the turn of the seasons here on the farm. I saw the crops half-grown and then harvested but this is my first spring here and I've now seen the fields prepared (some ploughed and harrowed) and sown with seed. And thrill of thirlls - my first ever breer sighting!! GO BARELY! Er...BARLEY!

(Erlend has undersown oats and clover with his grass and barley.)

Our new lass: a Shetland x Cheviot yow. We got her from a farmer friend and she's here to adopt wacky "Little Sheep" who has managed to terrorize every yow we've put him on. He's so insanely greedy that he drives every yow up the wall! We hobbled him and that's slowed him down a bit - but the little bugger is going to kill himself eating! This yow is 4 years old and much calmer. We still have to keep her in the lamb adopter though because she knows it's not HER lamb. (She lost her lambs.) We have to take Little Sheep off of the yow because HE WONT STOP EATING! Something must be wrong in his brain...

Donald has undersewn his oats as has Prince William by the look of things!!

Top photo the view TGMITN. Just exactly sums up the lovely weather we've been having. I'd love to see a man sewing oats. Even Island Threads would find that a challenge.....possibly.

Flying Cat from an admiring glance

Men sewing oats? Bugger? The standards in the blogosphere are falling. Is bugger a swear word?

Herman from Dictionary Corner, Northern Isles

Michelle - I read your letter on the Members Site, printed it out, and read it to the women at our last Women of Grace meeting. They loved it, as did I. My husband and I grew up in North Dakota..me in a wee town and he on a farm about 2 miles away. We can relate to much of what you are sharing. The picture of your farm is absolutely beautiful, as are the rest of the ones that I've seen. God bless you, dear sister in Christ. I think you are a true Woman of Grace.

LaRae from CA

woman of grace - is it a competition - can we enter - what are the requirements?

scallowawife from shetland

Oh, forget it, Scallo. Be at peace and tend to your bannocks. You are (probably) fine the way you are. Genuine humility is all we need, perhaps with a disposition to look at the world (incl. oneself), and be neither afeared nor preening. If all the stuff on this blog is Roman Catholicism, I am well on my way to becoming a Puritan. Oh well, takes all kinds to make a world (dogs, ducks, aye, and even c.a.t.s. - some flying, others hunting, eh?!). I can't believe that people have the hubris to call themselves women/men of grace. Boggles the mind.

mjc from NM,USA

Hello LaRae! Sadly I had to cancel my membership to the group because I was going to be charged almost $70 for an overseas member fee. I would pay almost twice as much and yet I couldn't attend the confrences that take place in America and the members-only forum was really inactive and so was the chat room - these are the only ways I could connect with the other members! I love the group and was really looking forward to the day when the forums got lively - but I can't justify spending so much money when I cant really participate in anything. Sadly. But I hope that the group grows and grows and comes over here to Scotland! scallowawife, I have no idea what the requirements are! I'm totally floored that someone thinks so highly of me. Wow. Thanks for such a lovely compliment LaRae - I hope I can live up to it even in the hidden moments when it's just me and God.

Michelle Therese from Mainland Orkney

I think dis-graceful wimmin are much more fun for all concerned! Scallowawife the requirements are probably more elevated and possibly more byzantine than you or any of the rest of us would ever hope to fulfil...

Flying Cat from sniggering on the sofa

I am so sad you are no longer a member. It would be wonderful for you to be able to post messages on the Site. Maybe they have scholarships available. Would you mind if I ask? I shared some of your pictures, that I had printed out, with my Cursillo Group Reunion sisters last night and they enjoyed them so much. My husband said that if he wins the Lottery (not much chance of that) we will come to visit you. I'd love it!!! Do you know that Johnnette's husband, Anthony, died last week? The funeral was yesterday in Florida. Anthony has been battling cancer... for a couple of years, I think. Please keep them in your prayers.

LaRae from CA

Godsake! Didn't Johnnette's son just die not too long ago in Iraq? Holy moley this is dreadful! I'd rather not join the group JUST yet as I'm up to my eyes in lambing, calving and getting this house moved in and redecorated. Keeping two blogs + my letter-writing ministry is too much already! Don't worry scallowawife and FC - there's now way I can be a women of grace. I'm just Moo the farmwife!!

Michelle Therese from Mainland Orkney

Yes, Michelle, I think it was probably 2 yrs. ago. She is an amazing woman.

LaRae from CA

ok. Lets get this sorted. "Woman of Grace". Lets have a definition. Any suggestions?

Ruthodanort from Unst

She could have been a very prolific mother...who only had female offspring. I hope that helps...

Flying Cat from puzzled&confused

fc, nope, doesn't help at all. Was the mother called Grace? Or were all her bairns girls called Grace? Who is Grace anyhow? And what is she prolific at - giving birth to bairns or blogs?

Ruthodanort from even more puzzled than FC

The arrival of the former might constrain the latter....should it transpire...

Flying Cat from up a family tree

Or you could possibly turn that around, and the increased practice of the latter could have a surprising effect on population rates. I wonder if there is any way of monitoring this? With some good statistics we would be able to market blogging as a new form of contraception. We could make a fortune!

Ruthodanort from Unst

Whatever you twa do, make sure it doesn't effect the barley fertility!!

Michelle Therese from Moooo!
