This is what the Island is fast becoming, a dumping ground.
The Government have stated that appox 50% of all waste COULD be recycled, so what do Argyll and Bute Council do? They enforce us to recycle 50% of our waste, they do this by cutting collections of waste to every other week. We have no general dump (Oh, the Council say we can take any excess waste to the dump on Islay but we have to pay the sum of 拢13.00 - on a council owned ferry), we have no skip, so what do people do?

As you can see, the bins in the village are pretty full (and this is at the end of the season), after two weeks. BUT DO NOT WORRY, the council are emptying the bins tomorrow!



The bin men have been told not to collect anything, not in the bins.

The Council seem to think that all this is created by the Islanders, not so!

Maybe we should rename Jura, Dumpa because you can dump your rubbish here but the Council will not take it away.

The rat population is rising like mad, rat hole prices are going through the roof (litrally) and outstripping house prices by some 84.76%.

Well, would you believe it, just as I was talking to the Oban Times this morning, along comes a Council employee and clears up the remaining rubbish.
This blogging really works but will it be enough to make the Council carry on clearing up.
Received an e-mail from Robin Curry, the Council are going to put another bin in the compound, let's hope this works and is not just short term.

Well, it's less than a week to go and still no Posters or adverts to let everyone know that there is a Music festival being held this coming week-end on Jura.

Friday night is for the amateurs, Saturday night is a professional band (don't know who). All day saturday there are work shops, music and of course....... the pub, also on Saturday night in the Hotel field, there is music by Pete Smoke and the Roaches ( a Jura Group playing rock etc ). On Sunday .................... the Pub and lots of live music.

If I can find out who the music is by on the Saturday night, I will post it ASAP.

I presume all are welcome, even though this event is not advertised.

I understand the main professional band is called "Croft number 5" OR "Number 5 Croft" OR something like that, what do I know? I never listen to the stuff.

Well, that's the end of the season as far as Jura goes.

Apparantly, Pete Smoke and the Roaches were great, as were Duncan Keith's Band, playing in the Hotel field.

Croft No 5 were also really good and the 'do' in the hall did not finish until somewhere about 6.00 a.m.

Sunday must have seen much drinking and playing of music, going by the amount of Lucozade and Water sold this morning.

Will the Music Festival survive another year? It seem's that most of the existing commitee are wanting to retire, who will replace them? NOT ME, that's for sure.

I hope other's are willing to come forward and carry this on, it would be such a shame, if it were to end, after being so successful over the years it has been going.
