Into to the darker half of the year with the sunrise on Autumn Equinox , and a new moon to boot....must be an auspicious time to return to the blog after a very long absence..... The Rowan berry crop is bountiful to say the least.....need to look up recipes (any suggestions welcome) and get them picked......along with the brambles that are bursting at the seams..... and I have reliable reports (and tastings....Thanks Mairi!) of bumper apple crops from more sheletered corners of Kerrera ....and the west coast..... Is this a good or bad sign for the coming winter?
Kerrera is quitening down for the winter as the season draws to a close. But it hasn't been a gentle closing as the gales have come in like clockwork, a vivid reminder of the very same weather when we first arrived on the Equinox two full years ago, and had to wait a day to get our old campervan and pickup across the sound....weighed down like two mechanical snails with the load of our lives on their backs. Two very full years.....so full that its becoming difficult to imagine a life before living on the island.
Tonight we are having dinner to say goodbye for the year to "Super Otto"..... Cook and Gardener Extraordinaire with the "Dutch Touch" who is heading back to the lowlands of Holland for the winter..... to return in the Spring. We'll miss you Otto, but we'll have Onions, Carrots, Beans. Leeks to remind us of you for some time to come.
Right time for tea, and a walk with the hounds and the wee girl.

When i was 10 a neighbour helped me make rowan wine. We all had a glass at dinner and it was lovely. Maybe a thought for next year! ! ! Great pictures, any more on the way?
