Geetha Sridhar
Geetha Sridhar is a professional dancer, performer, tutor and choreographer with a career spanning over 30 years. She is a traditional Bharatanatyam exponent from the renowned Kalakshetra School of art and dance. Geetha has combined disciplines of yoga, kalaripayattu and free style movement with Bharatanatyam in her body of work, attributed to her experience of working with renowned contemporary Indian choreographer Chandralekha. Geetha鈥檚 vision and choreographic style has allowed her expertise to present this classical art form on a modern stage with a contemporary flourish.
Geetha is very actively involved as a teacher and choreographer in the UK and has nurtured young talent to a professional level, as well as working with university students. She has contributed her time and skills to both commercial and charitable events and conducted workshops in many schools around Britain. Geetha was invited to be the Artistic Director, choreographer and performer at a historic event at Wembley Stadium to welcome the Indian Prime Minster, Narendra Modi. In 2015, she was honoured with the prestigious ‘Rukmini Devi’ award by Krishna Gana Sabha, Chennai. Her successful productions include Anna Karenina, Agam, Kavacham and Olympian Project to name a few.
Geetha is an artist who has bridged the gap between a traditional art form and a modern audience. She has allowed Bharatantyam to speak for itself through her innovative and contemporary interpretations and Geetha’s work continues to set her apart from the spectrum of talented classical Indian artists in the UK today.
