Theo Clinkard
Theo Clinkard was born in Cornwall and trained at Elmhurst Ballet School and Rambert School.
His current practice spans choreography, theatre design, dancing, teaching and mentoring. He joined Matthew Bourne’s New Adventures aged 17 performing roles in numerous shows and touring the company’s celebrated Swan Lake to Broadway, New York. He spent the next 18 years working with various companies including Wayne McGregor’s Random Dance, Siobhan Davies Dance, Lea Anderson’s The Featherstonehaughs among many others. Theo launched his own company in 2012 and his choreographic works include Ordinary Courage, Chalk, Of Land & Tongue, The Elsewhen Series (a co-creation with Leah Marojevi膰) and This Bright Field. In 2015, he was commissioned to create a new work for Tanztheatre Wuppertal Pina Bausch, one of the first 3 choreographers to conceive a new work for the company following Pina’s death. Other choreographic commissions include new works for Danza Contemporanea de Cuba and Candoco Dance Company. Theo spent 2 years working with Kylie Minogue, collaborating on two world tours as choreographic assistant to Rafael Bonachela, whilst his work as a movement director includes Sophie Hyde’s forthcoming feature film Good Luck to you Leo Grande starring Emma Thompson.
Theo regularly leads intensives workshops, residencies and classes internationally and is an Associate Artist at Brighton Dome & Festival and The Hall for Cornwall and an Honorary Fellow at Plymouth University.
