Annie Hanauer

Annie Hanauer is an independent dance artist working between the UK & France.

Originally from the USA, she holds a BFA in Dance from the University of Minnesota. She has performed, choreographed, toured, and taught extensively around the world for over a decade. She is currently choreographing A space for all our tomorrows, which looks at the idea of utopia through a disability lens, premiering & touring in STEPS festival across Switzerland in spring 2022. In addition to her own choreography, Annie has created touring work for Mobius Dance (Curious Playground), ZHdK Zurich University of the Arts (paper landscapes), as Cowles Visiting Artist 2020 at the University of Minnesota (IMPULSE), and will create a new commission for Candoco Dance Company in summer 2022. Annie is passionate about building inclusive & accessible artistic practices, and wants to joyfully disrupt assumptions of what a dancing body is. She is interested in the power, wisdom, creativity, and resilience of people who have been 'othered', stemming from her own lived experience as a disabled person.

Annie currently performs in the work of long-time collaborator Rachid Ouramdane (EDEN, Variations), and with the Paris Chamber Orchestra (Baby Doll). Annie has performed with Rachid Ouramdane, Emanuel Gat Dance, Lea Anderson, Wendy Houstoun, Nic Conibere/Normal Conditions, Boris Charmatz, and many other artists, and was a member of Candoco Dance Company from 2008-2014. She leads inclusive workshops, choreographic residencies, and professional classes around the world, and is one third of the collective AnnieVickySarah.
