Iain Mackay

Ballet Mentor

Born in Scotland, Iain trained in Glasgow at The Dance School of Scotland until the age of 16, when he moved to London to finish his training at the Royal Ballet Upper School. In 1999 he joined the Birmingham Royal Ballet where he rapidly rose through the ranks of the company under the direction of David Bintley and became a Principal dancer in 2003.

Between 2007 and 2009 Iain danced as a Principal in Spain with Corella Ballet, a company founded by the international ballet star Angel Corella, after which he re-joined Birmingham Royal Ballet until he finished his dance career in January 2018. Iain is currently the Director of Yorkshire Ballet Seminars and is proud to be a Male Dance Ambassador for the Royal Academy of Dancing.
