Hello

Much discussion has already taken place on suggested blogging alternatives. There have been a few suggestions regarding the spam filter too, though these won't be repeated!

Here are snippets of a few suggestions.

Ruthodanort wrote: If we're a community then we should be moving together, does anyone agree? And if we do agree, then we need to discuss where we're going. Any ideas?

Deckhand: A friend of mine who runs a very large scuba diving forum is helping me set up a domain name where we can all run blogs in software called wordpress. We are just sorting out the name of the community - hope island-blogging . co . uk isnt taken! It might be a bit shakey to start with, but please be patiend. I am a bear of very little brain when it comes to the internet.

Barney from Swithiod:
I am working on the following model and I would appreciate any comments that you make: a. Scotland IB will follow current IB format and rules, except: b. Modern blog motor permitting videos c. Maximum archive time 3 months (to save storage space and therefore costs) d. Sponsorship permitted (because it's going to cost money whatever whichway you turn) e. One-time code control of contributions(instead of Spam Fritter) f. It can鈥檛 be done without a Moderator (if we can find one).

That's the idea behind this post. If you have any suggestions for other blogs, please add to the discussion.

I know nothing about blogs really, but Moo's Walled Garden blog seems like a reasonable model to follow: she seems to have defined contributors who form a kind of group. Could we do something similar? But without having too many restrictions so as not to deter any potential new Island Bloggers.

Dear friends, I am sure that Carol is doing as much as possible behind the scenes for IB.. In the meanwhile, DON'T STOP BLOGGING! ITs good clean fun, we support each other and - if someone should find a prospective sponsor - it would help if the site was still active! So blogon till the kyle come home, the guga come back to roost and Moo's wee Elspeth has cut her wisdom teeth!

Barney from Swithiod steaming on

what would you ant of a moderator?

Oh my... I'm totally lost and confused.

I don't have any suggestions, but I was very upset to learn that IB will be dismantled/ disappearing. Although I only recently discovered IB I truly enjoyed reading and commenting on the blogs here and getting to "know" everyone and the islands better, and I will follow the blogs where ever you choose to go--just let IB fans know!

I have no suggestions either. Of course there are individual blogging places online like G**gle Blog, for example, but what we need is a space online to keep the existing community coherent and thriving. I complained on the Beeb complaints thingy, but to be honest, does anyone ever listen, even when the voices are many? I`ve modded online forums, if that`s any help? The offer`s there, anyways. :-)

I'm deffinately floored by the fact that IB is shutting down. Cant it just be upgraded so we can keep it going??

Moo from Hallway

the island blog theme could continue as a ring, that is when people all have their own blog as we do here and they are joined by a linking ring from one to another instead of a page as we have here, the main difference is that on the page the blogs with new posts appear at the top, with a ring you would have to go around it to find the recently updated blogs, the person - people incharge of the ring can say who is allowed to join, so for instance only people who live on the islands as with the current IB and the ring could be called Island Blogging or Scottish Island Blogging for more definition, if anyone wants to see what I mean then there are 2 rings on my island threads blog at IB,

Lassies and lads of the IB world, Doad and Squidgy have come up with what looks to be a highly workable and suitable solution the the future needs of IB. Soaplady has indicated that she can lend a hand or two, all smooth and sweet-smelling from moulding one of her soaps. I am trying to engage IBHQ to settle arrangements for a transfer. The end of the IB world is not nigh, go on eating your porridge and feeding the kyle, not to mention blogging to your hearts' content. C' on, keep me laughing, and the rest of the world along with me! You know why Elspeth is wailing so much? It's because she has sub-consciously caught Moo's mood of despair. Now Moo can be cheery and Elspeth will change her spots ... I mean, tune.

Barney from Swithiod strutting the stuff

The Removal Company will be round tomorrow to take all my weblog postings to another part of the blogosphere. What part? As yet undecided, but will be watching IB with interest over the remaining time it has left. Cheery.....

Tws from Waving Goodbye

You are a cheery one, Barney. You are not planning to play Sinterklaas in the coming days, are you? If so, could I play zwarte Piet? Are you naturally jolly? I am naturally a sceptic.

I'm gobsmaked! I thought the whole point of the 91热爆 was Public Service? When something actually works why is it cut loose? Islan Blogging has helped to bring the very real, unique and desparate issues affecting the Scottish Island community to the public foreground and encouraged public debate. If we're kicked off the 91热爆 we lose what ever identity we had. I'm truly disgusted. Half the power and often a lot of the fun was the history of the blog. I still can't believe we've all been dumped by the 91热爆!

Before it gets too late, Carol from IBHQ, I would like to wish you a happy end of the year and also all the very best in your next assignment. [Please convey my greetings to your predecessor and her baby as well]. # Thanks for your help, Carol. Not your fault if the spam fritter is a clunker and if the 91热爆 toffs think the islanders are not worth the resources or the bother. What I think was nice about island blogging was the fact that the islanders communicated with each other: it was nice to see the to and fro between, say, Coll and Lewis or Orkney. The variety of blogs was quite surprising and interesting (at times irritating, but, eh, that's democracy at work). Personally, I learnt a lot about the islands (and its people) and plan a return visit with wife- perhaps this time we shall drop by the Argyll and Clyde as well as the Western Islands. Coll, Luing, Mull, not to mention Jura, etc. are not just words any more. If Mountainman and Barney are serious about a summer geological foray around Mull and such, it should meet with quite a bit of interest.

Is there a set date when IB. gets the chop?

Tws from The Blogosphere

Hiya, TWS, Hogamanay would be as good a day as any... # Your visit to the quack should be coming up soon. All the very best, old pal.

Carol from IBHQ is welcome (please, Carol) to give my own e-mail details to anyone who wants them. Thanks Carol.

Jill from EK and still hoping for a solution

mjc, thank you very much for your kind words. It's been a pleasure getting to know you all through IB. I'll pass your message to Anne too and happy end of year to you. Tws, the FAQs have the info you're after and more so I'd advise having another read of those as they will be updated with any new info.

I see one J Bolt has the domain island-blogging.co.uk.

Ok chaps and chapesses. We have a new blogging site. The site is www.island-blogging.co.uk it is there, it has the software on it, but is still in the process of being set up. I'm afraid it has google ads on the pages, this is to pay for the bandwidth it uses, but I am pretty sure we can sort things out as it progresses. Nothing is set in stone, everything can be altered. Its a clean slate and we can get things set up exactly how we want it, but it will take time. Myself and Barney are dealing with the immediate issues, moderators, sections, features etc will come along soon enough. Anyhoo, this was more to let everyone know before people drift off never to be seen again. I will keep you all up to date with whats happening. H

Deckhand from An update

Wow, I found it! and left a comment! Carol from IBHQ, can you make a feature of this new address so people will see it, perhaps by a new IBHQ posting? Many thanks.

Jill from EK

Just went to www.island-blogging.co.uk [as in a comment by Deckhand ... above] and have registered a user name. It was easy! And the site is looking good.
