The only biological son of Brian, Ruairi is an Aldridge heir even though he has the surname of his mother Siobhan with whom Brian had an extra-marital affair. Initially, after choosing to not leave Jennifer for Siobhan who subsequently moved to Germany, Brian imagined that his relationship with Ruairi would be tenuous at best. But Siobhan's death from cancer in May 2007 brought Ruairi - then only four years old - into Jennifer's care. And only then after mighty ructions in the Aldridge clan.
Over time everyone adjusted and when Ruairi reached 18 years old he implored to Jennifer to be with him when he listened to an unexpected audio recording from Siobhan. Now at university, Ruairi is not only geographically distanced from the Aldridges but emotionally too after Alice, in an alcohol-fuelled rant, told him he was never wanted in the family. Thus, undermining years of work Jennifer put into making Ruairi feel loved.
