I like to think I鈥檓 a very people person
Joy Horville

Renowned for her talkative nature, Jim Lloyd once complained to Neil Carter that he knew everything about Joy after three long minutes. This view was solidified soon after her arrival when Joy had to be allocated extra time at a Parish Council meeting, as there wasn’t enough time to list all of her complaints.

Despite this Joy has turned out to be a good neighbour and friend, often appearing on Helen Archer's doorstep with home-baked pies and cakes. Although she has a love of “making and baking”, Joy laments that she’s “never got the hang of cooking for one” after splitting up from her husband.

Through Joy’s friendship with Pat Archer, she met boyfriend Mick at a local food and drink festival and went on to discover the delights of relaxing in a hot tub. And Joy’s caring side was revealed when she was on hand to support Ben Archer during his psychotic episode.

Jackie on Joy

I love playing Joy - Joy by name Joy by nature! I think everyone should have a friend like her. If anything, she’s guilty of over-enthusiasm but I don’t think she’s got a bad bone in her body. I think she’s quite lonely, has some sad, dark days behind her but she loves Ambridge and all she wants to do is fit in and belong.

Jackie Lye

Jackie was born and raised in Newcastle and is a very proud Geordie! She made her professional debut with Live Theatre in the original production of C.P.Taylor’s ‘ And a Nightingale Sang’ when she was just 17 before training at The Royal Central School of Speech and Drama.

She has worked extensively in theatre and TV ever since. Favourite roles include Michelle in ‘Strippers’ (West End) Grusha in ‘Caucasian Chalk Circle’ (Oxford Playhouse and tour) and Mam in ‘Cooking with Elvis’ (Hull Truck and tour).

Recent TV includes Doctors, Emmerdale and Vera but she is best remembered for playing Sandra in the popular 91热爆 sitcom ‘Brush Strokes’. She was delighted to join the cast of The Archers in 2019 - a dream come true!
