Excerpts from Tchaikovsky鈥檚 first great ballet score include the colourful sequence of national dances and the heartbreaking final scene. Rachmaninov鈥檚 Rhapsody on a Theme of Paganini features pianist Juan P茅rez Florist谩n.

The London Contemporary orchestra鈥檚 Late Night Prom puts a futuristic spin on the best sci-fi music for film and television. Among the soundtracks featured are those for Alien: Covenant, Gravity, Moon and Interstellar.

John Wilson and his orchestra take us back to where it all began in a concert of classic songs and scores from the Warner Brothers studios. The programme includes music by Korngold, Loewe and Steiner, including numbers from My Fair Lady and The Sea Hawk.

The sea rolls through both Mendelssohn鈥檚 overture The Hebrides and Elgar鈥檚 sumptuous orchestral song-cycle Sea Pictures. Mussorgsky鈥檚 colourful Pictures at an Exhibition and a world premiere by Errollyn Wallen complete the programme.

The OAE celebrates the 200th anniversary of Queen Victoria鈥檚 birth with music by her favourite composer Mendelssohn (including a piano concerto played on Victoria鈥檚 own piano, loaned by HM The Queen from the Royal Collection).

Sheku Kanneh-Mason joins the CBSO for Elgar鈥檚 passionate Cello Concerto. The orchestra marks the centenary of Mieczys艂aw Weinberg 鈥� the composer Shostakovich hailed as his successor 鈥� with a rare performance of his folk-inspired Third Symphony.

A celebration of nature in music, inspired by the bestselling book The Lost Words. The Proms features a specially written 鈥榮pell鈥� by the book鈥檚 author Robert Macfarlane and live paintings from Jackie Morris.

Town or country? That鈥檚 the choice offered by Daniel Harding and the Orchestra de Paris. Widmann鈥檚 explosive Babylon Suite invites listeners into the sonic chaos of the city, while Beethoven鈥檚 Symphony No. 6 offers an evocative portrait of pastoral life.

China鈥檚 Shanghai Symphony Orchestra makes its Proms debut with an East-meets-West concert including music by Qigang Chen and Rachmaninov鈥檚 exhilarating Symphonic Dances. Leeds Piano Competition winner Eric Lu joins them for Mozart鈥檚 Piano Concerto No. 23.

Andr茅s Orozco-Estrada conducts the Vienna Philharmonic in a concert with a Central European accent. Dvo艡谩k鈥檚 鈥楴ew World鈥� Symphony and folk-inspired The Noonday Witch join Korngold鈥檚 unashamedly Romantic Violin Concerto. Leonidas Kavakos is the soloist.

B-boys and b-girls take centre-stage for a spectacular celebration of the virtuosity and variety of the music that has influenced the breaking scene since the 1970s. Jules Buckley and the Heritage Orchestra are joined by special guests.
